About Innovation in the Netherlands:

The Netherlands holds a leading position across the world when it comes to innovative potential and strength.

In the European Union Netherlands ranks among the top 5 countries, while globally it is in the top 10 countries.

Its impressive rank can be partly attributed to the close public-private collaboration between knowledge institutions, governments and businesses.

Many innovations are the product of scientific research and education.

Delft University of Technology – the largest and oldest technical university in the country – plays a huge role in this respect. This is demonstrated by its large number of patents it holds, which presently, are around 2500 patents worldwide that mention Delft University of Technology as the applicant.

There are numerous different ways to get these innovations out into the world, including licensing the patent, selling it to a market player, entering into a research contract or founding a start-up.

The Stamp Set:

Each of the 10 Stamps on the Innovation in the Netherlands Stamp Sheet features an illustration of a unique innovation project that was developed by Delft University of Technology.

The quirky drawings, with their sunny summer colours, explain the essence and application of the innovation.

Nearly all of the illustrations feature one or more cartoon characters who are witnessing or demonstrating the benefits of the innovation.

Most of the characters are humans, but gulls and elephants also appear. Each illustration includes the name of the innovation in the drawing.

The country name Nederland (the Netherlands) is featured alternately at the top and at the bottom of the stamps, just like the denomination "1" and the year of issue - "2021".

The sheet edge features a brief explanation of the relevant innovation.

The stamp sheet was created by CVIII Ontwerpers in Rijsbergen, consisting of Luci van Engelen (design) and Erwin Suvaal (illustrations).

A First Day Cover (FDC) bearing five of the issued cancelled stamps, affixed at top right.

At left is a stylised representation of two faces looking left and right with an electric bulb symbolising the birth of a concept/idea.

Two Presentation Packs (PP) have been issued in the set (above and below)

The Stamp Booklet is titled "Innovatief Nederland".
