The Native American Mint’s coin sets featuring different tribes continues with the 2024 Crow Tribe Set

Known in their own tongue as the "Absaroka", (the term “Crow” was bestowed on this tribe of Plains Indians because the word Absaroka means “children of the large-beaked bird.”)

French interpreters translated the name as “people of the crow,” which was shortened to just “Crow” by English speakers.

For their traditional rivals on the plains - the Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne - they were referred to as “Raven.”

During the Plains Indians Wars in the late 1800s the Crow, led by their greatest chief "Plenty Coups", aligned with the U.S. government, and proudly served as U.S. Army scouts against their traditional enemies.

Legal-Tender Native American Coins:

The Crow people are believed to have originated in the Ohio Valley before migrating westward to the Great Plains region, settling in what is now Montana and Wyoming.

They relied heavily on buffalo for their livelihood, using their meat for food, hides for clothing & shelter, and bones for tools.

They were skilled hunters, horse breeders, traders, and were known for their distinctive tipis, horse culture, and beadwork. Today, the people of Crow Tribe continue to maintain their cultural identity and traditions.

Long before America was a nation of states, it was a nation of tribes.

The Coin Sets:

To honour these tribes, the Torrance, California-based Native American Mint struck a series of Indian Sovereign Nations coins that are authorised by each tribe

The coins are also recognised by the Federal Government as legal tender in each tribal nation as set forth in the Constitution of the United States and from the terms of bilateral treaties that date back to the 18th century.
