1454) The first ever "No Show" Panda, USA: Minted in Platinum (One Oz.), Gold (One Oz.) and Silver (50.0 grams) Medal Variants: American Numismatic Association cancels the "2020-World's Fair of Money", scheduled to be held in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on 04-08/08/2020:
Since 1891, the American Numismatic Association (ANA) has held one of the world's largest annual numismatic shows - the "World's Fair of Money".
The American Numismatic Association (ANA) is a non-profit Organisation dedicated to educating the public about coins and related items. It encourages the study and collecting of numismatic items and assists the academic community in their research.
However, due to the Chinese Wuhan virus pandemic (also known as COVID-19), the 2020 ANA Show in Pittsburg Pennsylvania has been cancelled.
It has been 75 years, since the Show was last cancelled because of the outbreak of World War II.
The 2020 "No Show" ANA Panda:
The history of the "Show Pandas" goes back to the mid-1980s, with commemoratives minted to celebrate a variety of coin shows around the world.
The Banner shows the Obverse of all the three Variants of the Medal - Silver, Gold & Platinum
Starting in 2015, special edition of "Show Pandas" Proof medals is struck and released every year at the ANA Show, as a way for guests to commemorate the occasion. Officially licensed by the ANA the "Show Pandas" are a much sought after item for many collectors.
Just prior to the cancellation of this year's event, the 2020 ANA Show Panda Medals went into production and through a special arrangement with the ANA, these commemorative pieces have been authorised for release to collectors/enthusiasts.
The Obverse of the Proof Medals mimics the look of the 2004 Panda, as 2004 marked the last time, the ANA's World Fair of Money was held in Pittsburg. A mother panda walks alongside her cub as they exchange a loving look.
The design also displays the ANA seal, towards the lower periphery, which comes coloured in gold on the 2020 Silver and Platinum Proof medal issues.
The Reverse of the Proof Medals is dedicated to the "City of Bridges", Pittsburg Pennsylvania, and features a design of the planned location for the now suspended 2020 ANA Show. The design depicts a spectacular ensemble of different urban bridge scenes.
The ANA Show Panda Medal is available in tree variants - Gold, Silver and Platinum:
The Show Panda Medal comes in three variants - Gold, Silver and Platinum all struck in Proof condition, with each Proof Quality Coin having been created using specially treated dies and highly polished planchets.
Striking each blank multiple times under incredible pressure, these 2020 ANA Show Panda Proofs display their designs in frosted relief with stunning mirrored fields.
