Italy Brands Featuring the Campari Beverage: Date/Year of Coin issue: 11.04.2025:
The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS) has released its latest coins ihighlighting the iconic Italian brands.
The Header/Banner features Campari's nostalgic logo features on the reverse side on the 4 Euro Silver Coin.Campari (Italian: [kamˈpaːri]) is an Italian alcoholic liqueur, considered an apéritif of the bitter variety and an Amaro or, herbal liqueur that is commonly consumed as an after-dinner digestif by the rest of the world. It obtained from the infusion of herbs and fruit (including chinotto and cascarilla) in alcohol and water.
It is a type of bitters, characterised by its dark red colour. It is produced by the Davide Campari Group, a multinational company based in Italy.
Campari was invented in 1860 by Gaspare Campari in Novara, Italy.
It was originally coloured with carmine dye, derived from crushed cochineal insects, which gave the drink its distinctive red colour. Campari Group discontinued the use of carmine in 2006.
In 1904, Campari's first production plant was opened in Sesto San Giovanni, near Milan, Italy. Under the direction of Davide Campari, Gaspare's son, the company began to export the beverage, first to Nice in the heart of the French Riviera, then overseas.
As Gaspare’s business and brand grew in popularity, he saw an opportunity to run his business from the newly built Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the cultural epicentre of Milano.
He moved into the majestic new building and named his premises Caffè Campari which looked out opposite the iconic Piazza Duomo.
It was here that his eldest son Davide Campari, heir of the Campari business, was born on 17th November 1867.
Campari soon outgrew their Caffè Campari premises in terms of production due to both domestic and international demands for the outstanding drink. As a result, the company moved into their first Campari laboratory and production facilities in Milano.
Even this move could not keep pace with the continued success and, in 1904, in order to meet greater demand, Campari moved to a purpose-built plant in Sesto San Giovanni, which has remained the home of the Campari Group Headquarters.
Gasparo’s son Davide continued his father’s passion to bring the iconic spirit of Campari and the unmistakable style of the Milanese company to the world.
Today, the Campari brand is now distributed in over 190 countries and remains an everlasting emblem of Italian style and excellence. Campari is a registered trademark of Davide Campari Milano S.P.A., which is part of Gruppo Campari (Campari Group).
It is now 165 years since the founding of the Campari brand and product by Gaspare Campari.
