The Header/Banner showcases the Obverse and Reverse of the bimetallic (Silver & Copper) square-shaped Coin commemorating Environmental Protection as enshrined in the Italian Constitution, against a background representation of a plant and butterflies in a healthy environment.
The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato Italiano (IPZS) has released Collector Coins which highlight a new amendment added to the Mediterranean country’s constitution, which adds protection and preservation to the environment of the nation.
The Italian Republic had made protecting the environment part of its present constitution, which was originally enacted by the Constituent Assembly on the 22.12.1947.
On the 08.01.2023, the Italian parliament has once again shown its commitment towards environmental protection and approved an amendment which outlines regulations wherein the state must safeguard ecosystems and biodiversity, which preserves the environment in the interest of future generations.
The change to the constitution also outlines and requires that health and the environment must be protected by the economy.
The new law states that private industry can no longer impact the climate.
The protection of animals has been recognised with inclusion and wording for both the environment and animals.
The amendment to the current Italian constitution is significant for the country’s future.
The Coin:
The Obverse of the 5 Euro square-shaped bi-metallic (Silver - Copper) Coin features a representation of the ground that holds a seed deep under the soil.
Above ground is a caterpillar pod attached to a branch. Some imagery extends to the outer metallic rim of the coin.
Around the seed is the text of the 9th amendment of the Italian Constitution outlining the protection of the environment and bio-diversity.
Above the horizontal line demarcating above the soil line is the text "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA".
The Reverse of the 5 Euro square-shaped bi-metallic (Silver - Copper) Coin focusses on the same seed seen on the Obverse in which the sprout has come to life.
Within the soil is the wording from paragraph 41, highlighting the right and duty of the nation and every citizen to protect nature.
In the background are two butterflies in flight that have completed their process of metamorphosis, an image that is directly connected to the obverse.
To the left and to the right of the sprout is the denomination of the Coin - "5 EURO" and "2023" (the year of issue).
The mintmark "R" is positioned between the butterfly and sprout, identifying the Mint of Rome.
Below the primary design is the name of the designer "E. FERRETTI".
The sprout and butterflies are coloured in green, white, and red, the colours of Italy’s national flag.
