About the Lucky Lion Dance Festival:
Lion, the king of animals, is well known to be a symbol of bravery, strength and power. Lion dance performances on major festivals like Asian New Year is believed to be able to ward off evil spirits and bless people with good luck and peace.
Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.
The lion dance is usually performed during the New Year and other traditional, cultural and religious festivals.
It may also be performed at important occasions such as business opening events, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies, or may be used to honour special guests by the Asian communities.
The Asian lion dance is normally operated by two dancers, one of whom manipulates the head while the other forms the rear end of the lion.
It is distinguishable from the dragon dance which is performed by many people who hold the long sinuous body of the dragon on poles.
The Asian lion dance's fundamental movements can be found in Asian martial arts, and it is commonly performed to a vigorous drumbeat.
There are two main forms of the Lion Dance, the Northern Lion and the Southern Lion.
Both forms are commonly found in Asia and around the world especially in Southeast Asia, where the Southern Lion predominates as it was spread by the Asian diaspora communities.
Versions of lion dance related to the lion are also found in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam. Other forms of lion dance also exist in Indonesia, for example the "Barong dance" and "Sisingaan dance" in Javanese, Sundanese, and Balinese cultures.

This Lion Dance Festival Coin, Fiji is the first issue of the "Let’s Celebrate! Festival Coin Series" featuring the most celebrated Singaporean festivals – New Year, Dragon Boat Festival & Mid Autumn Festival.

Lion dance is performed by two persons, one to manipulate the papier-mâché head of the lion, and another to act as its hind legs. The performers abstractly express the lion motions through different stances and moving of the lion's head. The lion dance is accompanied by rhythmic beats of drums, gongs, and cymbals, which create a festive and joyous atmosphere.
