About UN Crypto Stamps - Series II (3 Offices - Geneva, Vienna & New York):
Previous Crypto Stamp issues: The Guiding Principles & the Strategy:
In 12/2018, the United Nations launched a first-time ever Strategy on "New Technologies for the United Nations".
The goal of this initiative was to define how the United Nations system will support the use of new technologies like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, blockchain, and robotics to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and to facilitate their alignment with the values enshrined in the UN Charter, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the norms and standards of international law.
Five guiding principles were identified to support this strategy:
- Protect and promote global values.
- Foster inclusion and transparency.
- Work in partnership.
- Build on existing capabilities and mandates.
- Be humble and continue to learn.
The Stamps:
In line with this new strategy, the United Nations Postal Administration brought out its first time ever "UN Crypto Stamps" on 24.11.2020.
The Stamps were developed in conjunction with the "United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology" and run on "Ethereum Blockchain".
The United Nations Crypto Stamps - Series II:
This is the second in a series of United Nations Crypto Stamps issued by UNPA.
The stamps in this series feature symbols of peace and the word “peace” in six languages.
The stamps, which were developed in conjunction with the United Nations Office of Information and Communications Technology connect a new generation of United Nations stamps with blockchain technology.
Each stamp carries a unique secret code hidden behind a scratch-off area. There are seven variations of the peace design that may be obtained (including a limited-edition variation) when the digital stamps are claimed online.
