2194) "The Pyramid Of Giza", Niue Island: "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World Coin Series: First 50 NZD (New Zealand Dollars) Gold Coin issued by The Czech Mint features the famous Pyramid: Year of Coins issue: 03/2021:
Seven Wonders of the Ancient World:
The ancient world in the Mediterranean and Middle East was full of architectural beauties from which eyes crossed. Some of them dazzled so much that even after thousands of years we still recount with awe the seven wonders of the world.
Legendary ancient monuments are being depicted in this Coin Series titled "Seven Wonders of the ancient World" , with each one of the one-ounce gold coins from the Czech Mint depicting one of the Ancient Wonders.
The first issue is dedicated to the Pyramids of Giza.
The Ancient Egyptians believed in the afterlife and built magnificent tombs for their pharaohs to allow them to touch the heavens.
The largest and most impressive of them became the Great Pyramid of Giza, which was completed in two and a half thousand years BC for King Khufu.
The gigantic pyramid was built of two million stone blocks, each weighing over two tons. The pyramid rose to a height of 147 meters, making it the tallest building in the world until the Middle Ages, and each side of its base measured 230 meters.
Thousands of stonemasons, carpenters and ordinary workers worked on it for three decades without knowledge of iron and more complex technologies – all to honour their god...
The Gold Coin:
The Reverse of the 50 NZD (New Zealand Dollars) Coin, designed by medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS., presents the Great Pyramid in its current form, which reveals the individual stone steps (the building was originally lined with white polished limestone that reflected the sun's rays).
In the background there is another smaller tomb and in the foreground there is a detail of building blocks complemented by the English inscription "THE GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA".
On the Obverse of the 50 NZD (New Zealand Dollars) Coin, which is common to the whole cycle, presents all the seven wonders of the world – the Egyptian pyramids, the hanging gardens of Semiramidina, the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, feidius' statue of Zeus in Olympia, the mausoleum in Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the lighthouse on the island of Faru.
Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued under a foreign license of the island of Niue, they also bear on the obverse side the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue "2021".
