2202) A Century of Bird Protection, Belgium: bpost (Belgian Post Group) has issued a sheetlet of postage stamps depicting Birdlife in Belgium: Year of Stamps issue: 24.01.2022:
Natuurpunt (Flanders):
The aim of Natuurpunt, together with Natagora, (the second Belgian BirdLife Partner), is to protect the remaining nature in Belgium through buying and managing land, protecting species, running awareness programs for a general and specific public and lobbying local and regional governments. Natuurpunt is an independent volunteer association with more than 133,000 members which protects vulnerable and endangered nature in Flanders.
Following the federal structure of Belgium, the two BirdLife Partners are active in Belgium.
In Flanders and Brussels, the Dutch-speaking region, all activities are carried out by the NGO Natuurpunt. Natuurpunt has 54,312 members.
In Wallonia and Brussels, the French-speaking region, Natagora was founded in 2003 by "Réserves Naturelles RNOB" and "Aves, Société d’études Ornithologiques", to join forces on communications, education and conservation policy. Natagora is supported by 10,893 members.
The two groups manage more than 26,000 hectares of Flemish nature in 500 different nature reserves.
The volunteers take the initiative: they take care of the purchase, management and opening up of nature reserves. They are assisted by professional teams.
With a strong network of hiking trails, viewing huts benches, play forests and visitor centers, everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy nature.
Departments and working groups are active in every Flemish municipality. The two Groups bring people together. Every year they organize thousands of activities - guided walks, management works, courses and workshops.
Through the work in the more than 200 study groups they keep an eye on the health of Flemish nature. In this way, they provide the scientific basis for the government's nature policy.
As a broadly supported and politically independent civil society organisation, they play an important role for a better nature. In order to put nature high on the political agenda, they enter into dialogue with policymakers at all levels, formulate policy advice and make ourselves heard in the social debate through positions, campaigns and actions.
For them nature conservation is paramount.
