2180) "Endangered Earth Blue Marble", Republic of Barbados: A $5, 3 Oz Silver Coin with genuine Chrondite Meteorite in a Translucent Blue Enamel, Rose Gold Plating finish: Year of Coin minting: 2022:
About 65 million years ago, a massive meteor struck Planet Earth. It not only wiped out the dinosaurs, it caused an estimated 70% of all species on Earth to go extinct.
And it could happen again. What such a cataclysm would look like is best left to imagination. Nevertheless, this coin depicts such an event, at the very moment a killer meteor impacts the Blue Planet.
The Coin:
This Coin is titled - "Endangered Earth Blue Marble—Meteorite Strike", and features an embedded genuine chondrite meteorite.
Depicting a large, rocky meteor hitting our planet, the impact is shown on this Coin to occur in the Pacific Ocean.
The meteor insert on this Coin is comprised of a genuine chondrite meteorite, properly scaled to be of an earth-destroying size.
Although this doomsday scenario has been popularized as science fiction in many books and movies, the possibility of the earth's destruction as a result of a meteor impact is real indeed.
Scientists estimate that a meteor measuring just 60 miles (96 km) in diameter would be sufficient to extinguish all life on our planet.
On the Coin, Earth's landmasses are plated in rose gold, while her seas are surfaced in translucent blue enamel.
This innovative Coin combines multiple technologies to create a next-generation Coin.
The meteorite impact, as it would be seen from various points on th globe.
The Obverse of the $5 Brilliant Uncirculated Silver Coin features the Emblem of Barbados in the centre. On the upper periphery is the country name - "BARBADOS", while on the lower periphery is inscribed - "3 OZ. 5 DOLLARS. Ag 999".
