"Tom Puss" ("Tom Poes" in Dutch) is a Dutch comic strip, created by Marten Toonder. Together with Hans G. Kresse's Eric de Noorman and Pieter Kuhn's Kapitein Rob it is regarded as the "Big Three of Dutch Comics".

"Tom Poes" was a talking animal comic, published in text comics format. The main protagonists are - "Tom Poes", a white anthropomorphic cat, and his best friend, "Lord Oliver B. Bumble" ("Olivier B. Bommel" in Dutch).

The series is sometimes referred to as the "Bommelsaga".

Toonder received many awards and honorary distinctions for both his illustrations and literary output.

In the Netherlands Tom Poes became regarded as a work of literature.

About 2021 Children's Welfare Stamps:

On 11.10.2021, PostNL has issued a new stamp sheetlet with Children’s Welfare Stamps marked with ‘1’ for destinations within the Netherlands.

The five stamps are dedicated to the 80th birthday of Tom Puss

Since 1924, PostNL has been issuing Children’s Welfare Stamps to raise money for projects aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable children

This objective is achieved by adding a € 0.48 surcharge to each stamp, since introduction of the Euro.

The proceeds from all surcharges will be used for projects developed by the independent "Stichting Kinderpostzegels Nederland Foundation".

The Foundation is committed to giving children in both the Netherlands and in other countries a chance of a better life. To make this aid possible, the foundation organises, among other things, the Children's Welfare Stamps campaign.

The campaign has been listed in the Dutch National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2017.

The Children’s Welfare Stamps campaign aims to offer help to children who do not have a safe home.

This year, more than 100,000 pupils from the last two years of primary schools helped PostNL in taking orders for the Children’s Welfare Stamps from 29.09.2021 till 06.10.2021, to promote the scheme.

Interestingly, due to the Chinese Wuhan Virus pandemic, new ways of presenting the stamps were devised.

For example, children sent personal video messages. With a special sales box and order forms through the letterbox, it was also possible to keep the necessary distance at the door.

PostNL is in the process of delivering all orders from 11.10.2021 onwards.

The proceeds from the 2020 campaign amounted to 7.6 million Euro. It is expected to build up a similar corpus through the sale of these stamps.
