DUNE - a Science Fiction Novel by Frank Herbert:
Dune is a science fiction media franchise that originated with the 1965 Novel Dune by Frank Herbert and has continued to add new publications.
Dune is frequently cited as the best selling science fiction novel in history.
One of the most complex and well regarded science fiction creations of all time, Dune is an incredible tale, spanning generations of events over expanses of space almost incomprehensible in scale.
It won the inaugural Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1965 and the 1966 Hugo Award, and has later been adapted into a 1984 film (by David Lynch), a 2000 television miniseries, and a 2021 film (by Denis Villeneuve), all of the same title.
"DUNE®" is a highly-anticipated major motion picture released in October 2021.
Herbert wrote five sequels, the first two of which were presented as a miniseries called "Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune" in 2003.
Dune has also inspired several traditional games and a series of video games.
Since 2009, the names of planets from the Dune novels have been adopted for the real-world nomenclature of plains and other features on Saturn’s moon Titan.
Frank Herbert passed away in 1986.
Beginning in 1999, his son Brian Herbert and science fiction author Kevin J. Anderson published a number of prequel novels, as well as, two sequels which complete the original Dune series (Hunters of Dune in 2006 and Sandworms of Dune in 2007), partially based on Frank Herbert’s notes discovered a decade after his death.
The Plot (Storyline for DUNE):
One of the most complex and well regarded science fiction creations of all time, Dune is an incredible tale, spanning generations of events over expanses of space almost incomprehensible in scale.
The political, scientific, and social fictional setting of Herbert’s novels and derivative works is known as the "Dune Universe" or "Duniverse".
Set tens of thousands of years in the future, the saga chronicles a civilization which has banned all “thinking machines”, which include computers, robots and artificial intelligence.
In their place, civilization has developed advanced mental and physical disciplines, as well as, advanced technologies that adhere to the ban on computers.
Vital to this empire is the harsh desert planet Arrakis, the only known source of the "spice melange", the most valuable substance in the universe.
The action takes place on Arrakis, a planet almost entirely covered by sand. Most people on the planet struggle for water and live in poverty. However, perhaps even more valuable than water, is the planet's most valuable resource - the "Spice".
This mysterious substance is mined and sold for large sums of money across the galaxy.
The story explores the future of this planet through the conflict between the Great Houses vying for its control.
The Coins/Rounds:

APMEX has partnered with "Legendary Entertainment" to release this exclusive Coin/Round Series featuring some of the most iconic themes from DUNE®. This collection coincides with the release of the highly-anticipated 2021 motion picture.

Also available are the same designs but with the logos highlighted in colour.
House Atreides:
House Atreides is one of the Great Houses in the Known Universe. The highly respected house produces many of the saga's heroes, including Paul Atreides, Duke Leto Atreides, and Lady Jessica. The House is known for its integrity, compassion and virtuosity.
The House Atreides insignia is a red hawk. The artwork commissioned for DUNE® shows the hawk in a striking angular, military-esque presentation.

Round Reverse: Features the DUNE® logo.
House Harkkonen:
House Harkonnen is one of the Great Houses in DUNE®. The fearsome House has produced many of the story's villains, like Baron Vladimir and Glossu Rabban. Harkonnen is known for its greed, cruelty and desire for power.
Obverse: Features the emblem of House Harkonnen, symbolic of a sharp of a weapon and their relentless force. 'HOUSE HARKONNEN' is displayed within the emblem.
Reverse: Features the DUNE® logo with weight and purity along the rim.
The Sand Worm:
The colossal Sand Worm is the most feared creature on the planet of Arrakis. It prowls just below the sand's surface, sensing vibrations and feeding on those who are foolish enough to venture into its territory. The worm is, however, essential in the ecosystem and economy of the DUNE® universe and holds many secrets to those who are daring enough to seek answers.
A coloured Coin/Round, depicts the giant sandworm of Arrakis that is part of the cycle creating the Spice Melange.
The coloured coins come presented in a slab.
Spice Melange Set:
This set features the "Spice" in the form of .9999 fine Gold grains packaged in a presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and features two vials of the "Spice," each containing 1/20 oz, for a total Gold content of 1/10 oz. Also featured in the box is a beautiful colourised Silver round exclusive to the set!
The Spice is among the most iconic aspects of the DUNE® story. Only found on planet Arrakis, this substance is known to increase mental acuity, physical ability and provide the capability for warp space navigation, unique to this resource.
