The Theatre building, which has been proclaimed a special edifice designated for preservation, is a unique architectural structure, serving as an important cultural center.
In 1958, a contest for the architectural design of the theatre building was announced by the Jerusalem Municipality.
In 1964, the first cornerstone was laid down and, seven years later, in 1971, the new building was inaugurated with a 970-seat hall.
Since its inception, the Jerusalem Theatre has become the largest center in Israel for culture and art, where the finest of stage, screen and visual arts are presented.
In addition, the Theatre excels in musical performances - it is home to the Jerusalem Symphonic Orchestra, as well as, to leading dance groups, both from Israel and abroad, and independent artists.
Each year, nearly a million people come to enjoy hundreds of performances, be it drama with suspense, comedy with laughter, ever-loved classic plays or modern Israeli stage plays.
A Banner/Header titled "Jerusalem of Gold Numismatic Bullion Coin Series" showcases the Obverse of the 20 NIS Gold Bullion Coin.
On the Obverse of the 20 NIS (New Israeli Shekel) Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Coin is depicted the Lion of Megiddo with its stylised curved tail taken from an ancient 8th Century BC seal excavated in Megiddo (Armageddon) in the Jordan Valley, that belonged to Shema, servant of King Jeroboam II.
