The Knesset, the Legislative Authority and House of Representatives of the State of Israel, is located in the area of the government offices in the Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem.
In 02/1955, the Government of Israel decided to construct a special building for the Knesset, and in 1956, the Knesset Presidency announced a contest for the planning of the building.
The contest was won by the architect Joseph Klarwein, who proposed an impressively grand architectural construction.
Work on the building went on for five years and came to its conclusion with a splendid ceremony in honor of the new Knesset building in Jerusalem.
The building is constructed in Jerusalem stone, which is both symbolic of the history of the Jewish people and a connection with Jerusalem.
The exposed stone walls on their part are also characteristic of modern buildings and of Mediterranean style.
Being secluded from the other buildings in the area and with its differing height, the Knesset building has an aura of importance that enhances the legislative authority and House of Representatives of the State of Israel.
