The Bank of Israel, through the (Israel Coins and Medals Corporation - ICMC), has brought out its latest coin which is part of the ongoing “Jerusalem of Gold” series, and is the 12th release thus far. The coin is being released on 29.05.2022, which is also "Jerusalem Day".
The Header/Banner shows the Reverse and Obverse of the 20 NIS Gold Coin presented against a background image of the sites represented on the CoinThe 2022 issue focusses on the historic town of Ein Karem.
More like an enchanting village in the hills of Jerusalem, Ein Karem is famous for its centuries-old holy sites, which include the Church of St. John the Baptist and Mary's Spring.
According to Christian tradition, Mary's Spring is said to be the source of water from which the Virgin Mary drank.
The narrow streets of Ein Karem are lined with galleries and art shops, as well as, refined Mediterranean cafes and restaurants.
Over the years, numerous Jerusalemites have discovered the charm of this picturesque country neighborhood, and presently, Ein Karem has become a popular tourist site, attracting thousands of tourists from Israel and abroad.
The Gold Bullion Coin:
The Reverse and Obverse of the Gold Coin placed side-by-side
On the Reverse of the 20 New Israeli Shekel (NIS) Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Gold Coin is depicted a view of the Church of St. John the Baptist, bathed in Ein Karem's typical vegetation, as seen through its gateway.
In the upper area to the right is the face value and mint year "2022" in Hebrew and English, and beneath it is engraved the "Star of David mintmark".
Towards the left, around the upper periphery is the word “JERUSALEM” (in English, Hebrew and Arabic) and below, to the right, around the periphery is depicted the metal fineness and weight, “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.9999” (in Hebrew and English).
The Obverse of the 20 New Israeli Shekel (NIS) Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Gold Coin, is common to all the Coins issued in the Series.
It depicts the Lion of Megiddo with its stylised curved tail, taken from an ancient eighth century BC seal excavated in Megiddo (“Armageddon”) in the Jordan Valley and which belonged to Shema, servant of King Jeroboam II.
Above the lion is the Israel State Emblem and below it is the text "ISRAEL" (in English, Hebrew, and Arabic).
