2443) "Time Travel", Niue Island: "Code of the Future Coin Series": Fourth Coin in the Series released by The Mint of Gdansk, Poland: Date of Coin issue: 06/2022 (Date of availability: 24.10.2022):
Code of the Future silver coin features "Time Travel":
The fourth in the Mint of GdaĆsk’s "Code of the Future Coin Series" of two-ounce silver coins depicts "Time Travel".
This Coin Series looks at what will be the big existential questions for humanity moving forward.
The first two issues, "Artificial Intelligence", and "Speed of Light", had their debut in 2016, while the third, "Immortality", was released in 2019 (with a 2018 date of issue).
Time Travel:
This fourth release features another of the great questions that science craves an answer for – "Time Travel".
While we know that travelling close to the speed of light creates a differing experience of it (time dilation), most of us are more intrigued by the possibility of travelling back into the past.
Despite all the esoteric equations and theories that the physicists churn out on a regular basis, the whole concept remains in the realms of fiction, at least until we are considerably more advanced technically.
Even though the coins in this series follow a similar format, there is quite a variety of styles within it.
The first two were quite clean in appearance, slick and appropriately futuristic, while "Immortality" greatly increased the detail in the background, and introduced a glow-in-the-dark effect on the coloured section of the reverse face.
Who amongst us hasn't dreamed of going back in time and changing our decisions? Or to move to the future and see what life would be like then?
This 2022 coin presents a tremendous amount of background detail, and a far smaller amount of foreground colour. Depicting scenes of the past, present, and future, it is an intriguing/complex subject to dwell upon.
This two-tiered coin has gained a futuristic image through the use of several techniques:
- It has been oxidised so that every detail of the Reverse is clearly visible, in particular the background symbolising the past, present and future,
- Selective UV printing highlights the man who is trying to change the course of life,
- The most interesting technique is the use of selective fluorescent printing, thanks to which the modernity of this unusual coin can be seen in the darkness.
On the Reverse of the $2 (Two Dollars - NZD) Silver Colourised Coin is seen a man/robot trying to turn the clock back/forward in time. The images of a dinosaur (representing the past), a signal transmitter sending messages into outer space (representing the present) and a woman with Artificial Intelligence (AI) helping her in her work (representing the future) are seen on this face.
One of the strengths of "Code of the Future" has been the themed obverse designs reflecting the coin’s main subject.
Seen on this Coin is an equally complex design with what resembles the internal mechanism of a watch, symbolising "Time Travel".
On the Obverse of the $2 (Two Dollars - NZD) Silver Colourised Coin, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right is seen in the centre. The design is decorated with images of watch cogs, which symbolise the inexorable passage of time.
The inscriptions are - "CODE OF THE FUTURE" (on the uppermost clock), the numerals "1 to 12" on the outer periphery symbolising a clock (time travel), "NIUE. 2022. 2 DOLLARS. Ag 999".
