Tolar - Czech Republic:
How did the Jáchymov thalers become US dollars? This incredible story will remind one of the investment coins of the Czech Mint with the year 2022 minted from one troy ounce, five Troy Ounce and One Kilo Coins of pure Gold minted by the Czech Mint on behalf of Niue Island.
Lightning rod, propeller, blood type, genetics, contact lenses, cube sugar or the word robot – all this is the work of Czech's ingenious scientists.
But it is a little-known fact that they have also given the world its most famous and respected currency. Which one is it? A dollar!
Somewhere in Texas, no one seems to know that the roots of their famous currency go back to a mountain town in a small country in the heart of Europe.
That is why it is worth remembering the forgotten Czech heritage, whose history began five hundred years ago... The "Jáchymov thaler" was a silver coin that originated in the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1520.
An exceptionally high-quality currency rolled throughout Europe and its success prompted the minting of a number of imitations.
The Czech thaler thus became, for example, the "Dutch "daler or Daaldar", which was paid, among other things, in the American colonies. Another distortion of the Czech word was the dollar.
The Coins:
While the Reverse of the coins, presents three Jáchymov thalers, on the obverse side one finds three US dollars.
Specifically, it is the motif of the very first coins minted by the United States in 1794, which borrowed from their Czech ancestor not only the name, but also the weight and fineness of the metal used.
Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued under the license of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, their obverse side still bears its necessary attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2022.
The story of Czech thalers is being presented in detail in a popular educational series that was created in cooperation with the Czech Mint and the news television CNN Prima NEWS.
