3017) A Euro Coin Set, 2018, Vatican City State: An eight (8) Coin Set issued by Commercializzazione Filatelica e Numismatica on Euro Coins: Coins Minted by the IPZS Italy on behalf of the "Stato Della Citta Del Vaticano" ("The Vatican City State") in 2018:

The Vatican has been issuing Euro Coins since the introduction of the Euro in 2002.

About Vatican Euro Coins Set: This is the second emission of Vatican euro coin set from the introduction of the euro (2002), on which the image is no longer that of the Pope.

This 2018 Vatican Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Coin Set comprises the complete series of Euro Coins from the Vatican - the 1 Cent to the 2 Euro Coins.

The Papal Coat of Arms is depicted centrally on the coins, encircled by the country name - "Citta del Vaticano". On the lower right of the coin is the year "2018".

If there is a Pope, it is shown on the coins of the Vatican. Vatican euro coin sets with Pope Francis was struck: 2014, 2015, 2016, and since 2017 the Vatican euro coins show the coat of arms of Pope Benedict only.

Pope - Francis I - has however, decided in his simplicity that his image no longer needs to be shown on the coins of the Vatican. His image was replaced by the Papal Coat of Arms since 2017.

Pope Francis, who is also known as the "poor people's Pope" and has repeatedly expressed his opinion about the negative effects and power of money, refused to be depicted on the money, so from 2017 Vatican euro coins depicted only Papal Coat of Arms.

The Papal Coat of Arms:

The Papal Coat of Arms is the crest that Pope Francis has been using since 1991 when he took office as the Bishop of Argentina.

At the top of the crest is a mitre with the two keys of Peter. In the centre one of the letters IHS of Christ are shown with a cross above it.

Furthermore, three black nails are also shown. The Star refers to Mary and the grass refers to Joseph. At the bottom of the Coat of Arms the motto of the Pope is printed. This motto reads - "miserando atque eligendo," has been removed from grammatical context to function independently as a motto, and translates to: "by mercifully choosing" or "by God's merciful choice." The motto then takes us to the center of the concerns of Francis' papacy.

The Coin Set:

Obverse: depicts the Coat of Arms of Pope Francis, around which is inscribed the words "Citta del Vaticano" and the coin mintage year.

Reverse: regular euro coin denomination numbers.

This Information Brochure (IB) gives the names of the designers and engravers and the issuing authority - "Stato Sella Citta Del Vaticano" ("The Vatican City State").

The specifications of the Coin Set:

Country of issue: Vatican City State; Year of Coin Set issue: 2018; Total worth/value of Coins: 3.88 Euro; Coin Quality: Brilliant Uncirculated (BU); Mintage: 60,000 pieces.

The coins are presented in a luxurious package. For 2018, a fresh grass-green colour has been chosen for the package.

The Cover inscriptions read - "STATO DELLA CITTA DEL VATICANO". In the centre is the Papal Seal. At the bottom is the Year of issue "MMXVIII - 2018".

The Back Cover is blank.
