The 44th Chess Olympiad which was scheduled to be held in Russia this year (2020) was postponed due to the Chinese Wuhan Virus Pandemic to 2021.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) went a step further and decided to hold the 2020 Chess Olympiad online, for the first time in its history. India and Russia were declared the joint winners.

Interactive chess has long been recognised and widely practiced around the world.

More than 16.0 million online games of chess are held daily. FIDE managed to bring this phenomenon to a higher level by organising a world-wide competition through the internet.

Chess players from 163 countries participated in the Online Olympiad which was organised on the chess.com platform. Kyrgyzstan's national team  also participated with 12 of the best chess players in the country.

There is no doubt that the first World Chess Online Olympiad will live forever in the annals of World Chess history and will have a positive impact on the further development of this ancient intellectual game.
