Founded by 51 countries following the Second World War, the United Nations (UN) is committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.

To help it achieve its goals the United Nations observes special designated days, weeks, years, and decades, each with a theme, or topic, which are intended to create international awareness and action on these issues.

One of the UN’s observations for 2021, the "International Year of Fruits and Vegetables". 

The UN observation is intended to highlight the important role that fruits and vegetables play in society, as well as encouraging improvements in sustainable production and reducing waste.

On 29.06.2021 the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic has issued into circulation a Kyrgyz Express Post postage stamp titled: "International Year of Fruits and Vegetables 2021".

The Stamp:

The Postage Stamp of 150 KGS depicts fruits and vegetables.

A set (se-tenant) of three stamps and a coupon.

A Miniature Sheet (MS) of five Stamps of 150 KGS each and a coupon/label.

A cancelled Miniature Sheet (MS), with a KEP Handstamp/Postmark.

A First Day Cover (FDC) titled - "INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FRUITS AND VEGETABLES 2021" at left, and showing images of a fruit and a vegetable at left bottom.

At top right is affixed the postage stamp of 150 KGS cancelled with a special Handstamp/Postmark showing vegetables arranged in the form of a smiling face. The Cancellation is of Bishkek Post Office of Kyrgyz Express Post. The cancellation is dated - "29.06.2021".

The Back of the FDC carries the following description:

"The General Assembly of the United Nations has declared 2021 as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV). The main responsibility for conducting the IYFV belongs to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).

The IYFV has four objectives :

- raising public awareness and draw the legislative bodies attention to the benefits of fruits and vegetables consumption for human health and nutrition

- promoting balanced and diversified healthy diets through fruits and vegetables consumption 

- reducing losses and waste in food systems

- Sharing best practices in the consumption, production, storage, transportation, processing and retailing of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are extremely important for nutrition, food security and human health".
