The Royal Mint, UK has released on 28.06.2021, a five Pounds Sovereign Coin, which is the final coin in its popular 2021 Sovereign Collection marking and celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's 95th birthday.

Born on the 21.04.1926, she was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, and, at the time of her birth, she was third in the line of succession to the British Throne.

She is the world’s oldest and longest-serving head of state, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, and has overseen an extensive period of extraordinary change.

The Coins:

The Obverse and Reverse of the 5 Pounds Gold Coin (Five Sovereign) placed side-by-side against a background image of the two faces. The logo of the Royal Mint, UK appears at the bottom.

The new coins are a traditional £5 gold piece often referred to as a five-Sovereign coin and first minted in 1817. 

Equal in weight to five Sovereigns, the ubiquitous presence of Benedetto Pistrucci’s timeless classic depiction of St. George and the Dragon on the Reverse has made the Sovereign popular worldwide.

 Once referred to as “the chief coin of the world,” the Sovereign was an instantly recognisable coin and has come to be a favourite amongst coin collectors across the globe.

The largest and rarest of the coins in the 2021 Sovereign Collection, the five-pound gold piece, allows for the stunning detail of Pistrucci’s acclaimed design to be reproduced, digitally remastered, from the original Pistrucci tooling, ensuring an accurate interpretation of his 200-year-old numismatic masterpiece.

Containing the same weight of gold of five standard Sovereigns, this year these exceptional coins feature a special element in celebration of  the Queen's 95th birthday — a unique privy mark designed as a Royal Crown with the number 95 entwined. 

A PRIVY Mark:

A Privy Mark was originally a small mark or differentiation in the design of a coin for the purpose of identifying the mint, moneyer, some other aspect of the coin's origin, or to prevent counterfeiting. One of the first instances of a privy mark used as a counterfeit measure was during the 17th century in a plan to mint farthings, halfpence and three-farthings.

In modern times, the privy mark is used as a design and marketing feature to commemorate a special event or signify that the coin is part of a set.

 It is still sometimes used to signify the location or origin of where the coin was minted, but is then usually referred to as a mint mark.Some privy marked coins – such as the Canadian Silver Privy Marked Maple Leaf – may sell at a premium.

The Obverse face of this Gold Five Sovereign  depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark, whose initials appear below the Queen's neck. The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. DEI GRATIA. REGINA. FID. DEF." (meaning "Elizabeth II. By the Grace of God. Queen. Defender of the Faith".
