2192) Queen Margrethe II, Denmark: 50th Anniversary of the reign of Queen Margrethe II (1972-2022): The Royal Danish Mint has issued Silver (500 Kroner) and Base Metal (20 Kroner) Proof  coins to celebrate the milestone: Date of Coins issue: 14.01.2022:

The Royal Danish Mint has released on 14.01.2022 new Silver and Base Metal commemorative coins in celebration of the "50th year Anniversary of the Accession of HM Queen Margrethe II" to the Danish throne.

The Header/Banner showcasing Queen Margrethe on her ascension (at left) and present day (at right), flanking the Silver 500 Kroner and Base Metal 20 Kroner Coins, placed in the centre

The Kingdom of Denmark’s heiress presumptive succeeded her father King Frederik IX on  14.01.1972.

As such, she became the 1,000-year-old European kingdom’s second queen regnant since her predecessor Queen Margrethe I became Denmark’s sovereign in 1387.

The Coins:

The silver 500-kroner and base metal 20-kroner Proof-quality coins have been minted by the Mint of Finland at their facilities in Vantaa, Finland, under license from the Royal Danish Mint .

On the Obverse of the Silver and Base Metal Coins is included an abstract portrait in profile facing right of Queen Margrethe II, which is inspired by the art of paper cutouts rooted in the minimalist sculptural tradition.

The inscription on either side of the effigy reads - "MARGRETHE II DANMARKS DRONNING."

A traditional heart privy, or mintmark, denoting the Royal Danish Mint is seen superimposed over the portrait located at the lower edge.

On the Reverse of the Silver and Base Metal Coins is a stylised pattern created by the number "50" representing the Queen’s Anniversary.

The pattern creates a visual reference to Amalienborg’s four palaces situated around Castle Square in Copenhagen, the official residence of the Danish head of state.

Above the primary design is the commemorative date "14. JANUAR" along with the year dates "1972" and "2022" on either side of the numeral patterns.

Below the design is the denomination of "500 KRONER" (silver) or "20 KRONER" (base metal), and the Queen’s own insignia, which is centred.
