2590) Grace Kelly (Monaco), France: “Women of the World Coin Series": First Coin in the Series: Gold and Silver Coins issued by Monnaie de Paris (The Paris Mint) kickstarts the new Series:

The Monnaie de Paris has started a new series of Collector Gold and Silver Coins which highlight the contributions of not only French women but women everywhere.

Following the success of the earlier Coin Series commencing in 2016, titled - “Famous Women of France,” ("Femmes de France"):

Jeanne d'Arc or Joan of Arc or "The Maid of Orleans" or "La Pucelle": "Women of France Coin Series": 200 & 50 Euro gold coins and 10 Euro Silver coins issued by Monnaie de Paris in July 2016

the new series expands its reach to include famous women of the world who have made a significant impact in the fields such as politics, art, or science.

This Coin Series begins with a coin to one of the world’s greatest names of the 20th century, Grace Kelly (1929–1982).

The first coins in the new series, gold and silver, honour Grace Kelly, (known to many as Princess Grace of Monaco), on the 40th anniversary of her untimely death.

The Header/Banner presented above showcase Grace Kelly's original photographs placed against a representation of the Obverses and Reverses of the Gold and Silver Coins issued in the edition

Grace Patricia Kelly (12.11.1929-14.09.1982):

She was an American actress who, after starring in several significant films in the early to mid-1950s, became Princess of Monaco by marrying Prince Rainier III in April 1956.

Kelly was born in Philadelphia and after graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1949, she began appearing in New York City theatrical productions and television broadcasts.

She gained stardom from her performance in John Ford's adventure-romance "Mogambo" (1953), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in the drama "The Country Girl" (1954).

Other notable works include the western "High Noon" (1952), the romantic comedy "High Society" (1956), and three consecutive Alfred Hitchcock suspense thrillers: "Dial M for Murder" (1954), "Rear Window" (1954), and "To Catch a Thief" (1955).

Kelly retired from acting at age 26 to marry Rainier and began her duties as Princess of Monaco.

The couple had three children: Princess Caroline, Prince Albert, and Princess Stéphanie.

Her charity work focussed on young children and the arts:

In 1964, she established the Princess Grace Foundation to support local artisans.

Her organization for children's rights, "AMADE Mondiale", gained consultative status within UNICEF and UNESCO.

Grace's final film contribution was to the documentary "The Children of Theatre Street" (1977) directed by Robert Dornhelm, where she served as the narrator.

The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Kelly passed away at the age of 52 at Monaco Hospital on 14.09.1982, from injuries sustained in a car crash the previous day.

She is listed 13th among the American Film Institute's 25 Greatest Female Stars of Classical Hollywood cinema.

Her son, Prince Albert, helped establish the Princess Grace Awards in 1984 to recognize emerging performers in film, theatre, and dance.

The Obverses and Reverses of the Gold and Silver Coins placed side-by-side

The Obverses of the Gold (200 Euro and 50 Euro) and Silver (10 Euro) Coins includes an image of Grace Kelly inspired by a series of publicity photographs taken in 1955 by the Pictorial Parade of the-then 26-year-old actress.

The background depicts a texture of roses that Grace Kelly was passionate about. Her name "GRACE KELLY" and the years of her birth and death, "1929 – 1982", form a circle around her portrait.

The Reverses of the Gold (200 Euro and 50 Euro) and Silver (10 Euro) Coins represent several elements that reflect the time of her life as an actress such as reels of film and cinema clapboards.

Centred on the clapboard in English text is an emblematic quote that Grace Kelly is attributed to have offered during an interview early in her cinema career where she declared "WOMEN CAN DO ANYTHING THEY DECIDE TO DO".

The denomination of "200 EURO or 50 EURO" (Gold), or "10 EURO" (Silver), is placed just to the upper-right side along with the year of issue "2022".

The entire Series will follow the principle of a free minting process which gives an antique appearance to coins and makes each coin perfectly imperfect and, therefore, unique
