235) Celebrating the Golden Jubilee (60 years) of EEPC, India: Commemorative stamps brought out by the Department of Posts, India:

Setting up of EEPC India:

EEPC India (formerly the Engineering Export Promotion Council) was set up in 1955, by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, for promoting exports of engineering goods, projects and services from India.

EEPC India’s focus & its processes:

As an advisory body, it actively contributes to the policies of Government of India and acts as an interface between the engineering industry and the Government.

EEPC India is the premier trade and investment promotion organisation in India and organises a large number of promotional activities such as Buyer Seller Meets (BSMs) both in India and abroad, Overseas Trade Fairs/exhibitions, and India Pavilion/Information Booths (IBs) in selected Overseas Exhibitions to demonstrate the capabilities of Indian engineering industry and to provide the Overseas Buyers with true value as propagated by Brand India.

India Engineering Exhibition (INDEE) is EEPC India’s own brand and is one of the largest expositions of engineering in the World. It is the largest and most important showcase for Indian Engineering. To create awareness on India’s rapid progress in the engineering sector, EEPC India organises INDEEs which are exclusive Indian exhibitions. These exhibitions are primarily meant for projecting the transformation of the Indian engineering industry from a supplier of low-value, labour intensive products to technology advanced items comparable with the products of developed nations.

EEPC India facilitates sourcing from India and boosts the SMEs to raise their standard at par with International best practices. It also encourages the SMEs to integrate their business to the global value chain.

To encourage building global partnerships with India, EEPC India organises India Engineering Sourcing Shows (IESSs), the largest display of engineering products and services every year. This is recognised as the only sourcing event in India – showcasing the latest technologies and a preferred meeting place for global buyers and sellers. This show is also important for encouraging foreign investments in line with the recently initiated “Make in India” campaign of the Government of India.

EEPC India publishes several reports/studies to make the members aware about the international trends and opportunities in order to enhance their global footprints.

The motto of EEPC India is “Engineering the Future” which aims at establishing India as a major engineering hub in the future and to integrate the Indian Industry with Global Industry in a way the Indian products are in line with the global best practices in the Industry.

EEPC India – Present Day:

EEPC India, which started out in a small way with a few members, has over the past six decades established itself as the largest Export Promotion Council in the country.

Presently, EEPC has a membership of around 13,000 Engineering Firms covering the entire spectrum of India’s engineering industry which consists of large corporate houses, small and medium enterprises and trading companies.

EEPC India is the first export promotion organisation in the country to have received the ISO 9002 Certification and also the first organisation in the country to have achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification for designing and organising Indian Engineering Exhibitions (INDEEs).

Since its inception in 1955, EEPC India has played a pivotal role in transforming the profile of India’s engineering exports sector.

Indian engineering exports have risen from around US $10 million to over US $ 65 billion today.

Moreover, Indian engineering industry forms the largest segment of the Indian industrial sector. The engineering industry with over 25% of the total factories in the industrial sector today, accounts for over 3% of India’s GDP and represents 63% of the overall foreign collaborations.

India is increasingly attaining global recognition particularly for its low-cost, high-tech frugal innovation technology according to a World Bank study titled “Unleashing India’s Innovations”. International companies are outsourcing industrial engineering design works to India in sectors like semi-conductors, automotive hybrid technologies, next-gen routers in telecom, power generation equipment, aero-space, avionics and consumer electronics, besides setting up Research and Development (R&D) centres in India.

Marketing Initiatives:

The marketing initiatives of the Council are manifold.

In addition to direct marketing, structural promotional events are organised on an on-going basis to create awareness among exporters.

These promotional activities comprise product specific delegations to targeted countries, organising exclusive Indian Engineering Exhibitions overseas, participation in specialised trade fairs and catalogue shows overseas, Buyer-Seller Meets and product-specific seminars/conferences in India and abroad.

EEPC India has organised exclusive INDEEs in Singapore, Bangkok, Nairobi, Lagos, Colombo, Cairo, Caracas, London, Melbourne, Addis Ababa, Sao Paolo, Almaty, Jakarta, Mexico City, Johannesburg, St. Petersburg, Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai.

EEPC India also regularly participates in several Catalogue Shows (CSs) where Information Booths (IBs) are used for displaying and distributing product catalogues of Indian companies. To promote sourcing from India, EEPC India has also organised Indian Engineering Sourcing Shows (IESS) in India and the India Shows (ISs) of the Government of India.

EEPC also provides a range of services to overseas buyers, exploratory business missions and trade, delegations to India, providing supplier’s profile and status report on request, assisting in establishing collaboration for third country exports, creating awareness among overseas buyers on India’s technical competence and supply capabilities, acquiring buyers with the business climate and policies in India, and, helping to settle trade disputes and removing operational constraints.

This multi-pronged approach in engineering exhibitions and trade fairs has proved to be very productive both for Indian exporters and foreign buyers.
