"11 Dec 15 NBRIDec 9, 2015, 12.24AM IST TNNLUCKNOW: If you wanted a vertical garden of chrysanthemums but thought it wasn't possible, think again. A variety of genetically dwarf chrysanthemums has been developed especiallyfor urban settings. This and many other techniques will be discussed at the two-day chrysanthemum and coleus show beginning on Saturday in the central lawn of CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI).Lucknowites will get a rare opportunity to see colourful blooms of genetically dwarf/mini-chrysanthemums especially developed by the National Repository of Chrysanthemum and CSIR-NBRI to promote vertical gardening.Bindiya, Haldighati, Himanshu, Mother Teresa,Pancho, Peet Singar, Sadbhavna, Sweta Singar,White Anemone and Yellow Baby are some of the mini-chrysanthemums best suited for balcony gardens and hanging. They will be on display at the show for the first time. Flowers in shades of yellow, pink, terracotta, and whitewill also be on sale.Senior principal scientist and the head of the botanical garden at CSIR-NBRI, RK Roy, said,"In today's time of multiplying high-rise buildings, maintenance-free, mini-chrysanthemum are best suited for vertical gardens, balcony and hanging pots as they neither need pruning nor pinching."They are ideal for urban setting, especially for decorating roofs or terrace of high-rise buildings, he added. The show will remain open for public from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday and from 10am to 6pm on Sunday."
