In November 2025, the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) of Bhutan unveiled a new generation of Ngultrum Banknotes to commemorate the 70th Birth Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuk.

These Polymer Banknotes (Nu. 100, Nu. 500 and Nu. 1000) entered into circulation in January 2026 featuring advanced security ans sustainability upgrades.

It is the first-ever Polymer substrate Banknotes in Bhutan, replacing paper for durability and recyclability.

All previous Ngultrum Banknotes remain valid legal tender and will continue to circulate alongside the new series.

Security and Design Features:

Polymer Durability: Longer lifespan, cleaner and recyclable.

Advanced anti-counterfeiting: - Dynamic foil stripe with a dragon clutching jewels.

Watermarks featuring the King and Buddhist symbols.

Tactile elements for visually impaired persons.

Cultural Heritage woven into design: Each denomination tells a story of Bhutan's monarchy and spiritual legacy.
