672) The Jewelled Phoenix: An AUD 2,000 hand-crafted numismatic masterpiece created by the Perth Mint, Australia with gems from the Argyle Pink Diamonds Mine, Australia:

The Perth Mint, Australia has brought out a magnificent numismatic masterpiece of great beauty titled "The Jewelled Phoenix" - an exquisitely hand-crafted fusion of rare treasures from two Australian icons - the Perth Mint and Argyle Pink Diamonds.

"The Jewelled Phoenix" Reverse shows its title on the top periphery and the Phoenix climbing a tree. There is a Chinese character on the right side of the tree. A stylised tree forms the background to the coin's reverse

The sparkling gems have been specially selected from the famed world famed Argyle Pink Diamond mine located in the Kimberly region of Western Australia.

The mystical Chinese Phoenix, rich in ancient symbolism, has been delicately recreated in rose gold and elegantly hand-set with 89 beyond rare Argyle pink diamonds, selected for their colour intensity.

The Phoenix, known as the immortal "King of the Birds" is richly symbolic in Oriental culture. With its intricate plumage designed in three-dimensional relief, the Phoenix appears to be landing on the fabled Paulownia tree, which has three of its flowers handset with pink diamonds, denoting its budding flowers.

A result of meticulous craftsmanship, "The Jewelled Phoenix" is a masterful work of art produced from more than 10 Oz of 99.99% pure gold. Elevating it to the truly outstanding beauty is the inclusion of 1.22 carats of rare natural fancy pink diamonds. The majority of the sparkling gems are pave set in a sculpted  rose red gold representation of a mystical Chinese Phoenix secured to the coin's reverse.

Mythologically, a Phoenix is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or born again.

Associated with the Sun, a Phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. The phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion. Alternatively, it is also believed to die naturally and simply decompose before being born again.

In Greece and Rome, the bird- Phoenix - was associated with the similar sounding Phoenicia, a civilisation famous for its production of purple dye from conch shells. In Egypt - in Heliopolis, the Egyptians venerated the "Bennu", a solar bird similar to the phoenix. Some other references to the phoenix are found in the Hindu "Garuda", the Slavic firebird "Gandaberunda", The Persian "Simurgh", Georgian "Paskunji", Arabian "Anga", Turkish "Zumrudu Anga", Tibetan "Me byi karmo", the Japanese "Ho-o" and the Chinese "Fenghuang".
