About Europa 2021 - Stamps:

EUROPA Stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations.

They bear the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world and have been issued for over 60 years.

Every year a new theme is assigned by PostEurop and all participating countries issue stamps with their own interpretation of the theme. The theme for 2021 is "Endangered National Wildlife"

More about EUROPA Postage Stamps:

EUROPA Postage stamps (also known as Europa - CEPT - European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations - until 1992) are special stamps issued by European Postal Administrations/Enterprises and bears the official EUROPA logo, a PostEurop registered trademark under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme.

EUROPA stamps underline cooperation in the posts domain, aimed at promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals.

As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world.

Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe's desire for closer integration and co-operation.

In 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps.

When CEPT decided to focus more on telecommunications in 1993, PostEurop took over the management of the Europa issues. The CEPT logo was replaced by a new logo created by PostEurop i.e. the word "EUROPA" leaning towards the right hand side.

Each year, PostEurop's "Stamps & Philately Group" selects the EUROPA stamp theme:

About Europa 2021 - "Endangered National Wildlife Stamps issued by Posti (Finnish Post):

This year’s PostEurop stamp theme is ‘Endangered National Wildlife’, and Posti (Finnish Post) has depicted three species which are critically endangered.

These beautiful stamps feature species that are locally registered from "Critically Endangered" through to "Near Threatened".

The Stamps:

In cooperation with WWF, Posti has published the Endangered Animals stamp series, the third and final part of which will go on sale in April. The new stamps will feature the Kingfisher Bird, the Apollo Butterfly and the Siberian Flying Squirrel.

The First Day Cover (FDC) shows the logo of the WWF at left. Also seen is a Kingfisher which has just caught a fish from the water. In the centre is seen an image of a Apollo Butterfly sipping nectar from a flower. At right is seen an image of a Siberian Flying Squirrel gliding through the trees at night.

On the top are affixed the three cancelled "EUROPA" Stamps issued in the set. The Special Cancellation Handstamp shows all three species featured in the Europa stamps in the centre, flying across a map of Finland, symbolising their presence in Finland.

The Cancellation is of Helsinki Post Office and the Cancellation date is - "28.04.2021".

The three EUROPA Stamps issued in the set.

The Kingfisher ("Alcedo atthis"):

It is distinguished from other birds found in Finland by its sparkling multi-colored plumage. The Kingfisher likes to stay near flowing water. It does not necessarily migrate, but tries to survive the Finnish winter in places where the water will not freeze. In Finland, the species is threatened by harsh winters and human activities near its breeding and feeding grounds. The habitats of the Kingfisher can be protected by restoring and protecting streams and rivers.

The Apollo ("Parnassius apollo"):

It is one of the largest butterflies in Finland. It can be observed from the beginning of July to mid-August. The species, which lives in sunny dry fields, is threatened by the loss of suitable habitats. We can help the Apollo survive in the future by maintaining sunny open fields.

The Siberian Flying Squirrel ("Pteromys volans"):

It is a large-eyed, gray, nocturnal animal that can glide from tree to tree across distances of dozens of meters using its glide membrane between the front and rear legs. The flying squirrel is threatened by forestry, in particular clearcutting. We can help the survival of the flying squirrel with responsible forest management and protection of forested areas.

A combined Full Sheet (FS) of 5 Stamps each of the three Variants issued in the Set.
