About Collections - The Artist's House:

Romfilatelia has brought out postage stamps on 09.02.2023 - titled "Collections - The Artist's House".

The issue, consisting of 4 stamps and a First Day Cover, is dedicated to the artist Alexandru Țzipoia.

A contemporary of Alexandru Ciucurencu (b. 1903), Corneliu Baba (b. 1906) and Ion Țuculescu (b. 1910), Alexandru Țipoia (b. 1914) is, in order of age, the fourth spiritual pillar of Romanian art that supports the “architecture of the image” of the 20th century.

About Alexandru Tzipoia:

Alexandru Țzipoia’s work was orchestrated like a symphony.

Complex by anxieties and creative solutions, sometimes simultaneously complementary and contradictory, contrapuntal by spiritual construction, serene by plastic expression, always appropriate to the theme, with an intellectual refinement of expression elevated, aristocratic, from the brain to the hand, the creative process passing through countless refined cultural-artistic filters, it has formed itself into a peculiar, unmistakable universe of rare beauty.

"Alexandru Țzipoia was a great artist, a pluralistic spirit in vast fields”, said Acad. Răzvan Theodorescu. The artist passed away in Geneva in 1993.

The following works are reproduced on the stamps of the issue:

The stamp with the face value of 2.20 lei illustrates the work titled Torso II

With the theme of “Music”, which was treated throughout his entire career, taking on an extraordinary scale in the last 30 years of his life, it is an oil on canvas, with dimensions of 50.00 cm x 40.00 cm., located in the collection of the “Alexandru Țzipoia” Memorial-Museum.

The stamp with the nominal value of 2.30 lei reproduces the work titled Brâncuși

Preoccupied with the personality of the artist born in Hobița, Alexandru Țzipoia embodied in several drawings as well as in this painting his own vision of Brâncusi’s personality.

He holds a glass in his hand and seems to say to us: “Don`t look for obscure formulas or mysteries. I give you pure joy”.

On the stamp with the face value of 9 lei is represented a Still life with an antique figure

It is a second subject dear to the artist, the one that allowed him to express himself and to evolve towards an increasingly conceptual art, synchronizing, despite the political prohibitions and the informational isolation of Romania in the ’50s, with the evolution of European and world art.

The stamp with the face value of 19.50 lei depicts an Old Street in Bucharest

Painter, in his youth, of the Bucharest of the past, passionate about the characteristic poetry of the old neighborhoods that no longer exist today, his painted and drawn work represents not only an artistic document, related to the Romanian Capital, but equally a historical and documentary one.

The First Day Cover (FDC) of the issue, on the seal is a depiction of the Portrait of Alexandru Tzipoia, ink on paper, 1970, by George Tzipoia, his son.

Furthermore, the graphic composition of the First Day Cover (FDC) reproduces - Self-portrait, ink on paper, 1943, Pyramid musical instrument, 1965, walnut wood, Concert in sepia, sepia ink on paper, 1978.

The Special Cancellation Handstamp/Postmark is of Bucharest Post Office and the cancellation is dated - "09.02.2023".
