About International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development:

On 30.01.2023 the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic has released a 2022 dated Kyrgyz Express Post (KEP) postage stamp titled - "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development" - which is the longest stamp in the world.

Kyrgyzstan is predominantly a mountainous country. Almost 90% of the country's territory is located at an altitude of more than 1500 meters above sea level

Some peaks exceed a height of 7000 meters

Therefore, the Kyrgyz Republic is naturally interested in the development of mountain systems and the improvement of their ecological state.

In 2002, the First Bishkek Global Mountain Summit was held. At this Summit was adopted the Bishkek Mountain Platform, which clearly indicated how mountainous regions should develop on a global scale.

Kyrgyzstan has become a leader in promoting ideas for the development of mountainous areas, bringing together various UN structures and dozens of world institutions to study the existing problems of mountainous regions and find solutions.

Confirming its world leadership in the field of mountain-related problems, Kyrgyzstan submitted a new resolution to the UN on the implementation of a five-year program for sustainable mountain development and on holding the Second Bishkek Global Mountain Summit.

At the initiative of Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the United Nations declared the year 2022 as the "International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development".

The corresponding resolution was adopted unanimously at the plenary meeting of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
