3433) The Gryphon: Protector Of Precious Treasures, (Ancient City of Abdera, Greece), Cook Islands: A $5 (Five Dollars) Silver Coin co-ordinated by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) : Minted by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprageanstalt (GmbH) at their facilities in Munich through the BGM (BIG GOLD MINTING) technology : Year of Coin issue: 2024:
The ancient city of Abdera was a major Greek municipality on the Thracian coast until it was destroyed in 376 B.C. following an invasion by the Triballi, who killed all the citizens who took part in the battle.
Until then, Abdera had flourished and prospered thanks to brisk trade with other members of the Delian League, a confederacy of ancient Greek states under the leadership of Athens.
Facilitating this trade were coins struck in Abdera that featured a Gryphon, a creature from Greek mythology that was a cross between a lion and an eagle.
The noble Gryphon symbolises both strength and wisdom and is revered as a guardian of wealth.
Here, that famous Gryphon coin has been reproduced as the fifth release in the popular Numismatic Icons Series.
Struck Using Big Gold Minting Technology:
The Obverse and Reverse of the 5 Dollars Gold Coin presented together.
The Reverse of the 5 Dollars Gold Coin shows a faithful reproduction of the famous Gryphon.
The peripheral inscriptions are - "5 DOLLARS. CHARLES III. 2024."
- Struck in a half gram of 99.99% pure gold using Coin Invest Trust’s (CIT) Big Gold Minting© (BGM) technology that allows tiny amounts of gold to be struck into relatively large sizes, the coin is an example of the best modern technology has to offer.
- Despite the challenges that would typically accompany the use of the thin planchets used to produce this type of coin, this BGM minted treasure displays excellent quality, with clean shapes, and sharp designs.
- Released on behalf of the Cook Islands, a self-governing island nation in free association with New Zealand, this legal-tender $5 coin will come with what CIT calls a Silk Finish.
- Visually similar to a burnished finish, a silk finish provides a soft, satin effect on the coin’s surface and helps diffuse light shining on it rather than just simply reflecting it.
- Just 5,000 of these 2024 Cook Islands $5 Five-Gram Gold Numismatic Icons: Gryphon Coins have been struck for worldwide release and each will be beautifully displayed in its original mint capsule with a specialized insert that holds it securely in place.
