The Bank Negara Malaysia has issued 1 Ringgit Alum-Bronze and 10 Ringgit Silver Coins to highlight the ASEAN Summit.
The ASEAN logo features on the Reverse side and shown in colour on the Base Metal and Silver versions.
The 47th ASEAN - Association of South East Asian Nations Summit and related summits were held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from the 26th to the 28th October of this year under the theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability. The ASEAN organisation includes the ten countries of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
In keeping with the theme, key outcomes included the formal admission of the small island country of Timor-Leste as the 11th member.
Timor-Leste or, East Timor with their population of just 1.4 million attained their independence from Indonesia in 2002 and has steadily looked to improve living and economic conditions.
Another outcome was the signing of additional protocols to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation - TAC established in 1976 which embodies universal principles of peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperation among States in Southeast Asia.
Discussions on the ASEAN Community’s Vision for the next twenty years and a commitment to continue building a resilient, innovative, dynamic, people-centred ASEAN through the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 protocol.
Malaysia’s chairmanship of the organisation concludes at the end of this year.
The Philippines will take over the rotating Chairmanship of ASEAN on the 1st January 2026 and begin preparations to host the next ASEAN summit under the theme of "Navigating Our Future Together".
The Coins:
The Proof and BU Coins have been minted by the Kilang Wang Bank Negara Malaysia National Mint at their facilities in Shah Alam, Selangor and on behalf of the Central Bank of Malaysia.
- The Obverse of the Coins draws inspiration from the concept of continuity, incorporating traditional weaving elements as its central motif.
- Featured is the official full-colour logo of the ASEAN-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025 and a stylised fireball symbolising the dynamic and progressive spirit shared by all ASEAN member countries.
The inscription ASEAN-MALAYSIA 2025 appears along the top right periphery and above the primary design.
The motif is specially formatted to flow seamlessly from the Obverse to the Reverse, a first in the history of Malaysian numismatic coin design.
- The weaving motif continues on the Obverse representing the enduring bonds and cooperation among ASEAN member countries.
- The text "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" is positioned along the top left rim. The denomination 10 RINGGIT (silver) or 1 RINGGIT (base metal) is shown just under the primary design near the lower periphery.

- Each coin is encapsulated and presented in its own custom case accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).
- The Sterling Silver Coin is available as a single coin option or as part of a two-coin set.
*The one ringgit proof coin is only available as part of the two-coin set. The BU 1 Ringgit coin is housed in a blister-coin pak which includes informative text and illustrations pertaining to the ASEAN summit.
