The Government and Treasury of the Cook Islands have authorised the issue of new Silver Proof Coins, which highlight blue skies and the feeling of unlimited freedom.
This coin recalls a time, when the luxury of flying in passenger airplanes or private two-seaters was still exclusive, and wanderlust was a longing that only very few persons could experience.
Last year's (2019) coin issue - "Fair Winds" had focussed on sea travel, which featured an "anchor" in its Reverse face design.

"Blue Skies and Tail Winds" are the words that are used by pilots to wish each other a safe flight, particularly, as they navigate skies where thunderstorms strike and birds fly. Also, favourable tail winds propels the plane along and the distance from say, New York to Europe becomes shorter by one hour, than when the winds are from the opposite direction.
This beautiful black Proof Coin called "Blue Skies" presents a high-relief and contrast of the propeller on the front of this plane. Beyond the propeller one can notice a highly detailed engine and presents a contrast between the propeller, engine, the cockpit and the dark surface. The stunning look of the coin is the result of a combination of sophisticated Smartminting technology, piedfort striking and the complex Black Proof technique application.

The coins have been commissioned by the Coin Invest Trust (CIT), on behalf of the Cook Islands and minted by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprageanstalt Mint in Munich, Germany.
On the Reverse of this 10 Dollars Silver Proof Coin is seen a propeller, behind which is the plane's distinctive engine and the cockpit, with a compass dial in the background on the upper periphery.
At right, is inscribed - "BLUE SKIES & TAIL WINDS".
On the Obverse of the 10 Dollars Silver Proof Coin is seen an image of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, designed by Ian-Rank Broadley, whose initials "IRB" appear below the Queen's neck.
The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. 10 DOLLARS. COOK ISLANDS. 2020".
