1243) 60th Anniversary of the First written Constitution of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory (BOT): A version of the circulating $1 (One Dollar) Banknote of "D" Series, released by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) & Cayman Islands Government: Date of issue: 28.01.2020:
The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) and the Cayman Islands government have issued on 28.01.2020 a $1 Commemorative Banknote, which celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the Cayman Islands' first written Constitution.
The Banknote is a modified version of the current "D" Series One-Dollar Banknote and also bears the commemorative Cayman 60th logo to the left of the Coat of Arms and the image of Queen Elizabeth II.
The commemoration honours Cayman Islands heroes and the men who felt that a written constitution should be there for the Islands and took necessary measures to get the document approved by Queen Elizabeth II.
In 1959, the original Constitution of the Cayman Islands came into effect. The current and the fourth written Constitution was established by "The Cayman Islands Constitution Order 2009" of 10.06.2009 and came into force in November 2009.
The Commemorative Banknote:
The Commemorative Banknote issued by CIMA is the same colour and design as the existing One-Dollar Banknote, but includes four differences or additions:
- The addition to the "CELEBRATE CAYMAN" Commemorative Logo is situated in the centre of the face of the Front of the Banknote.
- The signatures of the Finance Minister Roy McTaggart and CIMA Managing Director Cindy Scotland have been relocated to the right of the Queen's effigy.
- The magnetic thread running from the top to the bottom of each Banknote has been replaced with a new 4.0 mm RAPID micro-optic purple Security Thread.
- The Serial Number incorporates the Prefix "Q 2", shown divided by a horizontal dash, and is only used for special occasions like this one.
The "D" Series of Banknotes dated 2010 was introduced into circulation wef 04.04.2011.
On the Front of the $1 Banknote is depicted Angel Fish, a map of Cayman Islands, Coat of Arms of the Cayman Islands and a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
On the Back of the $1 Banknote is depicted a Nautilus Shell and the Bluff on the Cayman Brac.
The watermark is a turtle, CIMA electrotype, cornerstones.
The Size of this Banknote is 156.0 mm x 66.0 mm and it is multi-coloured, the predominant colours being Violet, Sea Blue and Orange.
