1991) "Experience Nature"- Haarzuilens Country Estate, Netherlands: A set of stamps issued by PostNL (Netherlands Post) featuring flora & Fauna of the Country Estate: Date of Stamp Set issue: 17.08.2021:

Haarzuilens is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Utrecht, and lies about 12 km west from the city centre of Utrecht.

Pronounced “Harzollens” by the local Dutch inhabitants, the village was built around the turn of the 19th Century after its predecessor and the local castle De Haar had been destroyed in a devastating fire.

The trees surrounding the castle are said to have originated in a forest on the other side of Utrecht. Local lore has it that several houses in Utrecht were demolished in order to move the trees to their new location and to give the castle's landlord his forest without the decades of delay usually required to grow new trees.

About Experience Nature - Haarzuilens Country Estate:

The First Day Cover (FDC) bears the five stamps issued in the set.

The stamps feature the following Nature Reserve residents: hare, pond skater, beech, nuthatch, buzzard, sycamore, edible frog, pollard willow, four-spotted chaser and sweet chestnut.

Images of natural elements in this area have been incorporated in a separate graphic layer on the stamp sheet: a banded demoiselle (top left), a green frog in the water (top centre), a wilted sycamore leaf (top centre left), sweet chestnuts (top centre right), a common garden snail (just below centre), a sitting kingfisher (bottom centre right), a flying Daubenton's bat (bottom centre left) and 2 winged sycamore seeds (bottom centre).

The Experience Nature - Haarzuilens Country Estate Stamp Sheet was designed by graphic designer Frank Janse from Gouda.

On the Sheet, the ten plants and animals are depicted in their natural environment on their own stamp.

In some cases, the image or background colour continues onto the adjacent stamp and onto the sheet edge.

Due to the landscape character of the photographs, a landscape stamp format was selected for this new issue. In previous years, the Experience Nature Sheets have always been in portrait orientation.

All photos are incorporated in a graphic layer of different sized overlapping circles, which break through the boundaries of the perforations.

The circle pattern returns as small droplets on the sheet edge and the tabs. There is another graphic layer on top of the circles featuring transparent images of animals and plants from this area.

The monochrome images are almost abstract and connect the stamps.
