The Central Reserve Bank of Peru in 2010 unveiled the design for one-sol coins, in its numismatic series called “Riqueza y Orgullo del Peru” ("Wealth and Pride of Peru").
The "Wealth and Pride of Peru" series first began in 2010 with the issue of the Golden Tumi as its motif.
Successive coins were issued such as the Karajia Sarcophagi, the Estela de Raimondi, the Chullupas of Sillustani, Machu Picchu, the Monastery of Santa Catalina, the Saywite Stone, the Great Pajaten, the Real Felipe Fortress, and the Temple of Vilcashuamán, and the Ruins/Monolith of Kuntur Wasi.
The Coins launched in this one-sol series included 26 unique designs reflecting Peru’s history and traditions.
Peru’s Central Bank has issued a new sol coin featuring the "Petroglyphs of Pusharo)" in 2015 in its Wealth and Pride series of collectors’ coins.
The "Petroglyphs of Pusharo":
These constitute a unique and extensive ancient rock art archaeological site in southeastern Peru's Manú National Park, an expanse of rain forest that still contains unexplored and little-known areas, and for which an official government permit is required for entry.
The site is made up of an array of deeply incised rock carvings that cover up to a height of 9 feet, a perpendicular rock face that is over 100 feet long and 75 feet high.
Its location is on the south shore of the "Río Palatoa" (designated on some maps at this location as the "Porotoa" and known by others as the "Palatoa Chico").
The petroglyphs are pan-Amazonian in origin, and of mistico-religious or shamanic significance to those Amerindians of past centuries who must have been their creators.
Also, there is an Inca component that has come to light, that the petroglyphs constitute parts of a map. The petroglyphs contain elements such as heart-shaped faces, some with double borders, spirals, zigzags, suns, "curlicue Xs" and others that defy verbal description.
Commemorative Coin:
Inscribed towards the centre left periphery is the inscription - "PETROGLIFOS DE PUSHARO. S. XV - S. XVI d.C.".
Vertically engraved is seen "1 NEUVO SOL".
