4109) "Steampunk" (a sub-genre of Science Fiction), Cook Islands: "Aviation": The Sixth Coin in the "Steampunk Coin Series": A $20 (Twenty Dollars) Silver Coin co-ordinated by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) : Minted by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprageanstalt (GmbH) at their facilities in Munich: Year of Coin issue: 2025:
Steampunk is a sub-genre of Science Fiction that incorporates retro-futuristic technology and aesthetics inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the Victorian era or the American "Wild West", where steam power remains in mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.
Steampunk most recognisably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people in the 19th century might have envisioned them — distinguishing it from Neo-Victorianism — and is likewise rooted in the era's perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, and art.
Such technologies may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne.
Other examples of steampunk contain alternative-history-style presentations of such technology as steam cannons, lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage's "Analytical Engine".
Steampunk also, incorporates additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, or other branches of speculative fiction, making it often a hybrid genre.
As a form of speculative fiction, it explores alternative futures or pasts but can also address real-world social issues.
The first known appearance of the term steampunk was in 1987, though it now retroactively refers to many works of fiction created as far back as the 1950s or earlier.
A popular subgenre is Japanese steampunk, consisting of steampunk-themed manga and anime, with steampunk elements having appeared in mainstream manga since the 1940s.
Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction, Victorian-era fiction, art nouveau design, and films from the mid-20th century.
Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as steampunk.

Present Day:
Steampunk has become a cultural phenomenon.
Having an impact on everything from film to fashion, this subculture of Science Fiction has grown in popularity and influence since it was first mentioned in the 1980s. Loosely defined as combining Victorian age mechanical technology with modern applications, its unique look can be seen everywhere.
In a nutshell Steampunk is what people thought about the future with their knowledge and techniques 200 years ago.
The Silver Coin:
- The first five issues of Coin Invest Trust (CIT's) Steampunk Coin, was extremely popular. This is the sixth Coin of the series.
- This Coin, like its predecessor, brings in a lot of details, surreal elements and hidden allusions to a "Aviation".
- Steampunk is and remains a cultural phenomenon. This subculture of science fiction, which affects everything from movies to fashion, has grown in popularity and influence since it was first mentioned in the 1980s.
- Loosely defined, it is about how people in the Victorian era, 200 years ago, imagined the future of today.
- This is now the 6th edition of the successful series. As always, the combination of ultra-high relief in an antique finish with partially gold-plated elements is a particularly distinctive feature.
- This time Coin Invest Trust (CIT) is focussing on "Aviation" and the various means of transportation that seemed possible with the means available at the time.
However, the designer has come up with something very special and incorporated 5 clues into the design that refer to the previous editions. Have fun discovering them.
The Reverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars) Silver Antique Finish (AF) Coin features an aviator in his flying machine. Various retro designed gadgets like a zeppelin flying overhead, steam engine, a locomotive, a bridge with surreal lights etc. fill the frame in this partially coloured Coin design.
The Obverse of the $20 (Twenty Dollars) Silver Antique Finish (AF) Coin features a left facing effigy of Charles III.
The inscriptions are - "20 DOLLARS. CHARLES III. COOK ISLANDS".
