4120)  "Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026", Republic of Italy: A 50 Euro Gold Proof Coin features the official logo of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games: Date/Year of Coin issue: 27.08.2025:

An exceptional collection of gold and silver coins in celebration of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games of Milan Cortina 2026 was launched earlier this year.

The collection features the Olympics most iconic symbols of the logo of the event, the journey of the flame, the mascot and the winter disciplines associated with the host locations. Each coin in the collection is a tribute to the magic of sport and to Italy.

A joint bid by Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo was awarded the 2026 Winter Olympics at the 134th IOC Session on the 24th June 2019, winning the bid over Stockholm and Åre in Sweden.

These will be the first Olympic Games to be officially co-hosted by multiple cities, with Milan primarily hosting ice events, and the remaining events being hosted in clusters around Cortina, and the Valtellina and Fiemme valleys.

They will also mark the third Winter Olympics, and fourth overall, to be hosted by Italy as Cortina d'Ampezzo had previously hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics.

The competition will involve 116 events in 8 sports and 16 disciplines and are expected to include more than 2900 athletes competing in the Games. This significant number also reflects the highest level of female representation making up 47% of the participants. The 2026 Winter Games will also include 86 countries that will send qualified athletes.

The Olympic Committees of Russia and Belarus remain suspended for violating the Olympic Truce due to Russia’s invasion and subsequent ongoing war with Ukraine.

At the 138th IOC Session in July 2021, the IOC approved a proposal by the organising committee to add ski mountaineering as a debuting optional sport. It will consist of three medal events of men's sprint, women's sprint, and mixed relay. In February 2024, the International Ice Hockey Federation announced an agreement with the National Hockey League to allow its players to participate in the Olympic men's hockey tournament for the first time since 2014.

The official Olympic medals of the Games were unveiled in Venice, designed as two halves that symbolize the culmination of an athlete and Para athlete’s journey and of all those who have walked beside them along the way, and created by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato – IPZS.

The emblem for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 was designed by the international branding agency Landor/WPP who developed two shortlisted options for the Organising Committee

The public then chose the winning logo entitled "Futura" through a global online vote in 2021.

It was the first time the logo’s choice was made by a public vote in the history of the Olympics

The design features an angular, drawing of the number 26 shown as single-line unbroken motion and depicted on a foggy window.

The Games are scheduled to take place from the 6th to the 22nd February 2026 with the opening ceremony being staged at Milan’s San Siro Stadium.
