Catalan architect and designer

Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) was a Catalan architect and designer, widely regarded as one of the greatest exponents of Catalan Modernisme.

He is best known for his iconic works, particularly the "Sagrada Família", which remains unfinished at his passing away.

Gaudí's architectural style is characterised by its organic forms, voluptuous colors, and texture, often inspired by nature and religion.

He studied architecture in Barcelona and is known for his innovative use of materials and techniques, such as trençadís (a ceramic technique) and stained glass. Gaudí's contributions to architecture have made him a significant figure in the history of modernism and continue to influence contemporary design.

The Centenary of Antoni Gaudí's passing away in 2026 (1926-2026) has been declared an Official Commemoration by the Generalitat of Catalonia:

This commemoration aims to promote the figure and work of Gaudí, one of the leading figures of Modernism and one of the most influential architects in the history of world architecture.

The events will include exhibitions, conferences, concerts, guided tours, projections, and cultural events, with the Sagrada Família inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ rising to 172.5 meters, becoming the tallest church in Europe and the tallest building in Barcelona.

The year will also see the opening of a new exhibition space at Casa Batlló, titled 'Beyond the Façade', and a projection mapping event at Casa Batlló's façade.

The Gaudí International Congress will take place at Casa Milà in June, and the year will be dedicated to architecture and design, with Gaudí's legacy at the center of the celebrations
