 About Children’s Stamp - Sipsik:

Handwritten cards with good wishes and greetings bring joy to recipients of all ages. 

In today’s digitised world, receiving postcards and letters makes everyone feel good and brings positive emotions to both the recipient and the sender. Sending letters is a good tradition to pass on to future generations. 

The children’s postage stamp of this year depicts Sipsik, a well-known Estonian children’s book character. 

Sipsik is a children’s book by Eno Raud, first published in 1962. The book is illustrated by Edgar Valter.

Eno Raud (15-02.1928 - 10.07.1996) was an Estonian children's writer. His works are considered classics in Estonia as well as in the other former Soviet countries. 

Raud was born in Tartu to writer Mart Raud and Lea Raud. He studied Estonian language and literature at the University of Tartu in 1952

From 1952 to 1956 he worked in the National Library of Estonia and from 1956 to 1965 in the Estonian State Publishing House. After that he retired and devoted himself to writing. He passed away in Haapsalu at the age of 68.

His works/writings:

Raud penned more than 50 books of stories and poems over his lifetime. 

His most popular works include Three Jolly Fellows, A Story with Flying Saucers, The Gothamites and Raggie. The author's children's books have been translated into more than 30 languages.

The postage stamp:

The Postage Stamp of 1.30 Euro depicts Sipsik

A First Day Cover (FDC) shows Sipsik at left admiring a mushroom. At top right is affixed the postage stamp issued cancelled with a special Handstamp/Postmark dated "01.06.2023". The cancellation is of Tallinn Post Office.
