The Obverse and Reverse of the 10 Euro Silver Coin presented against a background image of constant destruction of Earth's natural resources/Climate change etc. Under this constant degradation a little sapling is making an effort to survive and sustain its growth

The Bank of Lithuania has released a new silver Proof coins designed to hit home the environmental message of protecting our planet from further damage caused by climate change, misuse of natural resources and neglect of our natural habitat

The Coin itself is the result of the Bank of Lithuania asking the public in 06/2019 which subject they would like to see highlighted on a coin.

Almost 500 people expressed their views with 40 percent of the respondents suggesting the topic of a collector coin should be dedicated to environmental protection

On the 28.06.2022 a new Coin was presented  during the opening ceremony at Lithuania’s Climate Museum in the City of Panevėžys.

Many Lithuanians are keenly aware of climate change and erosion of the environment, especially after nearly half a century under Soviet occupation

This was a time when little care or thought was given to the country due to the blatant neglect shown by the central authorities.

After the restoration of independence from Soviet control in 1991, Lithuanians were able to regain control of the land and begin to repair the environmental damage caused by careless negligence.

Lithuanian climatologist and philosopher Silvestras Dikčius has written:

"Climate change is an existential problem of humankind. In order to comprehend it, we have to remove ourselves from our familiar perception of time and pragmatism, it is a perfect conundrum. For the long-term plan, humankind on planet Earth must not fail, the time to change is now."

Moreover, the message of the coin’s topic is this - "The planet will perish if humankind does not take responsibility now. Borrowing from the phrase “There is no plan B,” there is essentially no planet B if we fail to improve or change our destructive habits".

The Coin:

The Coins with their irregular/distorted shape have been minted by the Lithuanian Mint at their facilities in Vilnius, on behalf of the Bank of Lithuania.

On the Reverse of the €10 (Ten Euro) Silver Coin is inscribed the symbolic inscription  "NĖRA PLANETOS B" ("THERE IS NO PLANET B").

This face of the Coin is symbolically void of any additional design and includes the above simple message in text symbolically showing the shape of things to come if resources degradation continues at the same pace, over a period of time.

On the Obverse of the €10 (Ten Euro) Silver Coin there is the main motif revealed by artistic means – the planet Earth, disappearing due to reckless, selfish behavior and highlighting the message that the planet will perish if humankind does not take responsibility for it.

From a side view, the Earth is visible and extended with high relief from the surface of the coin.

The composition is surrounded by an inscription "LIETUVA" ("LITHUANIA"), the denomination "€10", the year of issue "2022" and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint.

The specification of the Silver Coin are:

Country of issue: Lithuania; Date/Year: 28.2022; Coin Theme: "There is No Planet B"; Denomination/Face Value: €10 (Ten Euro); Metal Composition: .925 Fineness pure Silver (Ag); Weight: 23.30 grams; Diameter/Size: 45.90 mm x 47.10 mm; Coin Quality: Proof (P); Edge: Plain; Mint: Mint of Lithuania on behalf of the Bank of Lithuania; Mintage: 2,750 pieces; Designer: Egidijus Rapolis.
