On 02.11.2022, Algeria’s Central Bank - the "Banque d’Algérie", issued new banknotes of the 2000 Dinar denomination.

Designed to commemorate the 60 years of Algerian Independence, the Banknotes were issued on the occasion of the 31st Summit of the League of Arab States, which took place in the first week of November at the International Conference Centre in Algiers.

The Front of the 2000 Dinar Commemorative Banknote showcases the Martyrs' Memorial, Algiers.

The image of the Martyr's Memorial is depicted on a horizontal frame.

The text is bilingual within the Arabic language the logo of the Bank of Algeria on the top right “دينار ألفا “, horizontally on the bottom right and in English language the face value of the denomination “TWO THOUSAND DINARS”, horizontally on the bottom left.

The number/numeral “2000” is positioned horizontally on the lower right and on the upper left.

The Arab League logo and the Algerian flag also feature on this face.

The dimensions of the banknote are 155 mm by 71.8 mm.

The predominant colours are green, blue, red, and brown.

The Martyr's Memorial, Algiers:

The "Maqam Echahid" or the "Martyrs' Memorial" is a concrete monument commemorating the Algerian War.

The monument was opened in 1982, on the 20th Anniversary of Algeria's independence.

It is fashioned in the shape of three standing palm leaves, which shelter the "Eternal Flame" under it. At the edge of each palm leaf is a statue of a soldier representing a stage of Algeria's struggle for independence.

The Martyr's Memorial is located on the heights of Algiers, in the municipality of El Madania, West of the Bois des arcades, East of Diar el Mahçoul and North of the plaza shopping center Riadh El Feth.

It overlooks the neighborhood of Hamma (common Belouizdad) and Botanical Garden Hamma (known as Jardin d'essai) in the north. The monument has been erected on the site of an ancient military fort.

More about the Martyrs Memorial:

Consisting of three stylised fins that join mid-height, the concrete monument built by the Canadian company Lavalin, based on a model produced in the Fine Art Institute of Algiers, under the leadership of Bashir Yelles, reaches a height of 92 metres (302 ft). Above the three supporting fins, at 14 metres (47 ft) from the ground, is an Islamic style turret with a diameter of 10 metres (33 ft) and a height of 7.6 metres (25 ft), topped by a dome of 6 metres (20 ft). It rests on an esplanade that burns an "eternal flame" and includes a crypt, an amphitheater and the National Museum of El Mujahid (underground).

The project to build a memorial in memory of the fallen from the War of Independence was the brainchild of President Houari Boumediene. Its implementation was, however, completed under the presidency of his successor Chadli Bendjedid.

The company Lavalin was responsible for the studies and construction of the monument. Several Algerian artists involved, like the painter Bashir Yelles, the calligrapher Abdelhamid Skander and the Polish sculptor Marian Konieczny.

The completion of the work was a real technological challenge because of the constraints inherent to the geometry of the assembly, especially the curvature of the fins, the situation of the site at the edge of a steep cliff and high seismicity of the region.

On the Back of the 2000 Dinar Banknote, in the center stands the minaret of Djamaa-Al-Djazaïr with the Hoggar mountains in the upper left corner crossed by a transparent polymer window.

At the bottom left, the mountains of the coast are represented as well as the Roman ruins of Tipaza on the right.  The Natural Stone Arch is in Tassili N’Ajjer National Park.

At the bottom of the minaret of Djamaa-Al-Djazaïr are represented a palm tree and a caravan of dromedaries

The dimensions of the banknote are 155 mm by 71.8 mm The security background is composed of geometric figures, graphic numismatic micro-impressions.

The security background covers the whole surface of the banknote. The dominant tone of this face is yellowish green.

It is printed on a special watermarked substrate or paper in two layers, front and back paper. Between the two, a special transparent polymer layer has been applied.

A “large window” type security thread is embedded in the paper. It is 5.00 mm wide, metallic, with a dynamic effect and contains micro text “1962”, on a silver background.
