New Year Lucky Coin Releases:

"Extra Tag, Extra Gluck" ("Extra Day, Extra Luck"):

The Austrian Mint is releasing on 06.12.2023 its annual New Year’s Coin which features different themes familiar in Austria (with Year of issue engraved as "2024" on the Copper and Silver Coins

The popular series was first issued in 2002 with Austria’s adoption of the Euro and features a motif that is either traditional or cultural. The Coins have since become a much-anticipated release.

The 2024-dated Silver and Copper Alloy Coin Variants of Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Coin Quality feature, the leap year 2024.

The New Year Coin 2024 is a special coin for a very special year. With 366 days instead of the usual 365, 2024 is a leap year and this limited-mintage coin is designed to remind us that the extra day should be enjoyed amid the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The extra day in a leap year keeps the calendar year synchronised with the solar year and thus with the cosmic order.

One should accept it as a heavenly gift and treat it as an extra portion of luck.

The extra day is a day with great potential on which one can allow yourself a little more "me time" dedicate more time than usual to someone else or do something one have always wanted to do.

Or if one has resolved to tackle something completely new by the end of the year, why not use the extra day for that?

Everyday life tends to demand a great deal from us without making any concessions, but that is not the case in 2024 when we are given a whole extra day to enjoy.

The Coin:

The Reverse of the nine-sided 5 Euro Silver and Copper-Alloy Coins is dedicated to the Gregorian calendar, which was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to bring the calendar back into line with the solar year.

Pope Gregory XIII features on the right edge of the coin next to a large, flame-haired human manifestation of the Sun.

Below the Sun is the calendar page for the month of February showing the 29th of February 2024 – the extra day.

At the top is the zodiac sign Pisces, which corresponds to late February.

The Obverses of the 5 Euro Silver and Copper-Alloy Coins are depicted each of the nine cantonal Coats of Arms arranged in a circle on the value side of the nine-sided coin.

The crests are surrounded with the name of the issuing country - "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH" along with the denomination of "5 EURO". The denominational value - "5" (in the centre) with the currency name "EURO" (on the bottom periphery).
