Sukanya Samriddhi Account:

This is a Government of India backed saving scheme targeted at the parents of girl children. The scheme encourages parents to build a fund for the future education of their female child.

The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22.01.2015 as a part of the "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" campaign. The account can be opened at any India Post office or branch of authorised commercial banks.

The Sukanya Samriddhi Account Rules, 2016 was rescinded on 12 December 2019 and the new Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme, 2019 was introduced.

The account can be opened anytime between the birth of a girl child and the time she attains 10 years age by the parent/guardian. Only one account is allowed per child. Parents can open a maximum of two accounts for each of their children (exception allowed for twins and triplets). The account can be transferred to anywhere in India.

A minimum of ₹250 must be deposited in the account initially. Thereafter, any amount in multiples of Rs 100 can be deposited. However, the maximum deposit limit is ₹150,000. If the minimum deposit of ₹250, (initially which was 1000) is not made in a year, a fine of ₹50 will be put on.

The girl can operate her account after she reaches the age of 10. The account allows 50% withdrawal at the age of 18 for higher education purposes. 

The account reaches maturity after time period of 21 years from date of opening it. 

Deposits in the account can be made till the completion of 15 years, from the date of the opening of the account. After this period the account will earn only applicable rate of interest. If the girl is over 18 and married, normal closure is allowed.

A Special Cover (SC) issued by the Maharashtra Postal Circle of India Post:

The Front of the Special Cover (SC) is titled - "Sukanya Samriddhi Account".

At left is shown a stylised image of a happy carefree girl child. 

At top right is affixed a cancelled postage stamp celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the Pincode, issued in 2022.

The Special Cancellation Stamp is of Pune Post Office and shows a girl child under the umbrella protection of her parents. The cancellation is dated "23.01.2023".

The logos of G20 and AKAM are at extreme right bottom.

The Back of the Special Cover (SC) gives a brief description (in Hindi and English):

"Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a small savings scheme of the Government of India, meant exclusively for girl children up to 10 years of age. This was launched on 22nd January 2015 by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during a launch event - 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" in Panipat, Haryana. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana has been instrumental in helping parents to plan a bright and prosperous future for their daughters. 

To commemorate "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav", Pune Postal Region in Maharashtra & Goa Circle has opened more than 75,000 "Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts" during the drive period.

This Special Cover is released to commemorate the completion of 8 years of Sukanya Samriddh Account Scheme and contribution of the Department of Posts (especially Pune Postal Region) in taking the scheme up to more than 2,63 crore Girl Children in India (more than 5.35 lac in Pune Postal Region.)"
