The Austrian Mint, Vienna had continued its innovative Silver and Copper Coin Series of 10 Euro Coins that depicts the "Language of Flowers" and the meaning of floral expression.

The Header/Banner shows the Obverse and Reverse of the Silver Coin and Reverse of the Copper 10 Euro Coins against a background representation of the "Peony" Flowers. The Header is titled - "Gluck UND FREUDE". The Mint Mark of the MUNZE OSTERREICH is at centre left.

THE LANGUAGES OF FLOWERS 10 EURO COIN SERIES:

Whether to convey feelings of love, desire and friendship, congratulations and condolence, declarations of intent and even forbidden and unspeakable things, flowers have been used as a form of language throughout recorded history, each country and culture with its own version.

The "Language of Flowers Coin Series" brings this age-old custom back to life and discusses the meanings, folklore, properties and uses of seven well-known flowers.

The messages conveyed by those flowers are inspirational, so too is the technology used to bring nature to life on the coins. 

None of the principal flower images in the series is based on a drawing or illustration: the starting point of every coin design is a real flower grown in the garden, which is then pressed using a special technique that captures the flower in its natural state.

The giving and receiving of a floral gift is the focus of this Coin Series launched last year and brings this age-old custom back to life by discussing the meanings, folklore, properties, and uses of seven well-known flowers. 

Opening with the rose, the series continues with the dandelion, marigold, forget-me-not, chamomile, peony and violet.

The Mint of Austria has brought out its sixth coin in this innovative and cleverly designed series titled “The Language of Flowers,” which features a particular flower that has its own special meaning when exchanged as a memento or gift. The latest flower featured is the "Peony", signifying “good fortune, happiness.” In terms of traits the Peony is associated with intelligence, prosperity, boldness and honour.

The flower also has other symbolic associations, including compassion, love, beauty and female fertility.

Lasting just seven to ten days, Peonies bloom only briefly and the flowers that emerge from the spherical bud of the Peony is a thing of wonder.

The Peony has been painted by many European artists, including Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Edouard Manet.

Like all the coins in The Language of Flowers series, the Peony features an imprint of real flowers.

Faithful to the tiniest detail, they are pressed using a special technique that captures them in their natural state.

The Header/Banner includes a design in colour of the Peony Flower

Designed by Kathrin Kuntner and Rebecca Wilding, on the Reverse of the 10 Euro Silver and Copper Coins is featured three imprints of real Peonies in different stages of flower, behind them is a band of stylised Peonies. 

The Proof Silver version includes an element of colour which enhances the design of these delicate flowers. 

On the Obverse of the 10 Euro Silver and Copper Coins, is depicted a smiling young woman whose hair is adorned woth laurel and pearls.

To the right of her head is a curved cornucopia from which Peony calyxes and coins are pouring.

To the left of the woman is the year of issue" "2024" placed along the upper periphery.

The denomination is shown as "10 Euro" just above the primary design and the text "REPUBLIC OSTERREICH"

As part of the design process in replicating flowers, none of the principal flower images in the series is based on any particular drawing or illustration.
