Territorial Army (TA): Platinum Jubilee (75th Anniversary) Celebrations: A Special Cover (SC):

On the front of the Special Cover of the 75 Years (Platinum Jubilee - 2024) celebration of the Territorial Army (TA) is an image of the Territorial Army Officers and men in various stages of action.

At the top right is a cancelleed 500 Paise (Rs.5/-) postage stamp affixed above the address - C/O 99 APO. dated 05.10.2024

The Back of the Special Cover (SC) gives the serial no. of the Cover as APS/44/2024 on top. At the bottom is the issuing authority - Addl. Dte Gen APS C/0 APO.

The Information Brochure gives the following description:

"The Territorial Army (TA) is a "Citizen's Army" which was raised by Shri C. Rajagopalichari, the first Governor General of free India on 09 Oct 1949. It provided part time military training to gainfully employed citizens to become combatant soldiers to epitomise the spirit of service towards the Nation by honing the best talent in society.

The "Citizen's Army" with its motto of "vigilance and Valour" has performed its tasks exhibiting courage and professionalism in combating terrorism, securing lines of communication and vital installations and strengthening the ecological balance of the country. The "Terriers" (as appelated) have ensured vital supplies of FOL & LPG during times of disruption in supply chains.

This unique organisation stands out in that it is proud to have units in both non-departmental ans Departmental Territorial fields viz Infantry, Ecological Task Force, Railways, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Engineers and The Territorial Army (Home and Hearth) units were raised as a "Sons of Soil" concept, have been well embedded in the system and proved to be effective force multipliers in synergising operations. Certain units are also deployed in conjunction with Border Roards and Ministry of Railways for bprotection of road/rail alignments under construction in sensitive areas.

Territorial Army Ecological Task Force Unitsd are making substantial contribution at achieving National Carbon Sink targets and in restoration of biodiversity. A Specialised Ecological Battalion namely " Ganga Task Force" has been working towards conservation and rejuvenation of River Ganga as part of "Namami Ganga Project" under "National Mission for Clean Ganga".

TA units amid harsh, challeging geographic and climatic conditions undergo prolonged field deployments and the brave TA Warriors have participated in all operations including OP Pawan, OP Vijay. Numerous individuals have displayed the highest standards of bravery and devotion to duty and have been honoured with Gallantry as well as Distinguished Service Awards including "Ashoka Chakra", the highest Peace Time Gallantry Award.

As part of "Nari Shakti" women in Non-Departmental Territorial Army as Officers are being commissioned in Engineer Regiments (Territorial Army), Ecological Territorial Army units and staff appointments.

The "Citizen's Army" has proved to be an asset towards Nation building. Keeping pace with changing times, Territorial Army is also evolving and undertaking various steps to transform to remain current and responsive to the emerging environment.
