4198) "Lakes and Waterways", Switzerland: A 20 Francs Silver Four-Coin Series highlights landmark Lakes and Waterways in Switzerland of which two will be released in 2025, while one each will be released in 2026 and 2027: Date/Year of the first two Coins issue: 30.10.2025:

The Swiss Mint has issued the first two new special silver coins in a series of four Silver Coins highlighting Swiss Lakes and Waterways.

The four-coin series shares a common Obverse design - two Silver 20 Francs Coins issued this year while two will be issued in 2026 and 2027 (one coin each)

This Silver Coin Series titled "Swiss Lakes & Waterways" features some of the country’s more notable bodies of water beginning with Lakes Lugano and Maggiore.

With over 1,500 lakes and many rivers, Switzerland is seen as the water tower of Europe.

Lakes are not just key features of the landscape, they also offer valuable habitats for flora and fauna, as well as being popular places for recreation and inspiration for people.

The Coins:

Lake Lugano - A glacial lake situated in the canton of Ticino, it’s location is on the border between southern Switzerland and northern Italy.

It is named after the city of Lugano and has an area of 48.7 square kilometres or, 18.8 square miles and a depth of 134 metres or, 440 feet.

Lugano perfectly blends its Mediterranean flair and Italian influence with the Swiss Alps in the background. From idyllic villages such as Morcote to spectacular views from Monte San Salvatore, the area is very picturesque.

Lake Maggiore – A large lake on the south side of the Alps, it is the second largest lake in Italy and the largest in southern Switzerland.

With an area of 212.5 square kilometres or, approximately 82.05 square miles, Maggiore and its shoreline are divided between the Italian regions of Piedmont and Lombardy and the Swiss canton of Ticino.

Lake Maggiore dominates the lakeside towns of Locarno and Ascona with their charming palm tree-lined promenades and spectacular view of the water and surrounding towns. The lake’s mild Mediterranean climate, unspoilt towns and impressive nature are a firm favourite for locals and visitors alike.

The Reverse of each of the two 20 Swiss Francs Coins released now shows a bird's eye view of the shining, tranquil lake.

The landscapes surrounding Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano are depicted by means of contour lines extending out to the coin's edge.

The name of the lake is written in bold lettering LUGANO or MAGGIORE and the word Lago is shown is stylised script above or next to the image, adorning the surrounding Ticino landscape

On the Obverse of all four coins in this new 20 swiss 20 Francs Coins are featured the same striking graphic symbolising Switzerland's role as Europe's water tower.

All four coins in this Coin Series feature the same striking graphic featuring stylised elements of peaks representing Swiss Mountains and wavy lines representing waterways or, lakes.

To the left of these elements is a circle that includes an outline of the Swiss Cross.

The overall design symbolises Switzerland's role as Europe's water tower.

Around the primary design and along the periphery is the text "CONFOEDERATIO + HELVETICA 2025" with the letter "B" representing the Bern Mint positioned after the year.

Below the motif is the denomination "20 FR".

Both coins include the intaglio edge inscription in Latin "DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT" ("The Lord will provide") along with thirteen five-pointed stars (representing the 13 Swiss Cantons).
