The Stegosaurus:

The Header/Banner features a Stegosaurus on a rocky antiqued surface at left and the $2 Silver Coin, the Presentation Case/Packing and Certificate of Authenticity (COA)

The statuesque Stegosaurus forms part of this Dinosaur Collection brought out by the New Zealand Mint on behalf on Niue Island.

Stegosaurus was a large, plant-eating dinosaur that lived during the late Jurassic Period, around 150million years ago, primarily in Western North America. Fossil evidence shows that Stegosaurus was about the size of a bus at an impressive 9.0 metres long and about 4.0 metres tall.

The name stegosaurus comes from Greek wirds "stegos" (meaning "roof") and "Sauros" (meaning "lizard"). The name was derived from an original belief that the plates that this dinosaur is so famed for lay flat along its back like shingles on a roof. But most evidence now supports the theory that the plates alternated in two rows from the dinosaur's neck down to its rear. Though what purpose the plates served has still remained a mystery.

Stegosaurus also had spikes at the end of its flexible tail. Experts believe that these spikes were used for defence against predators.

The Coin:

The Reverse of the $2 Silver Antiqued Coin depicts a Stegosaurus in glorious colour against an engraved pre-historic landscape. The coin has been antiqued for further effect.

The inscription towards the upper periphery is - "STEGOSAURUS", while on the lower periphery is given the metallic composition of the coin - "1 Oz. 999 Fine Silver".

The Obverse of the $2 Silver Antiqued Coin depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials "IRB" appear below the Queen's neck.

The peripheral inscriptions are - "ELIZABETH II. NIUE. TWO DOLLARS. 2020."

The outer Cardboard Packing Case depicting a Stegosaurus image on a rocky antiqued surface. The Packing case is titled "DINOSAURS - STEGOSAURUS".

The Presentation Case in which the Coin is presented, together with the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and the outer Cardboard Box depicting the Stegosaurus image on a rocky antiqued surface. The box is titled - "DINOSAURS -STEGOSAURUS".
