1503) The 12 Signs of the Roman Zodiac, Tuvalu Island: Perth Mint, Australia has issued a $5 (5 Dollars) Silver Antiqued Coloured Coin on behalf of Tuvalu: Year of Coin issue: 2020:

Early civilisations believed that the Sun, Moon Stars and Planets have a tremendous influence on people and their earthly affairs.

Observing the night sky over the course of a year, the Babylonians identified 12 different patterns of Stars through which the Sun appeared to "travel". The roots of Astrology lay in the idea that a person's character and fate were somehow linked to the arrangement of these celestial bodies at the time of their birth.

Later the Greek Astronomer Ptolemy codified many astrological concepts, attributing a name derived from Greek or Roman mythology to each "constellation" in the "Zodiac" (meaning "Circle of Little Animals").

A horoscope interprets a chart of the heavens at a precise point in time - such as someone's birth-date - to explain aspects of their personalities and predict future events.

The Coin:

On the Reverse of the $5 (Five Dollars) Silver Antiqued Coin are seen original artistry of each Zodiac Sign in colour - Aries (The Ram); Taurus (The Bull), Gemini (The Twins); Cancer (The Crab); Leo (The Lion), Virgo (The Maiden), Libra (The Scales), Scorpio (The Scorpion), Sagittarius (The Centaur); Capricorn (The Goat); Aquarius (The Water Bearer) and Pisces (The Fish).

Each figure is enclosed within sinuous patterns suggestive of the art nouveau style. These and other antiqued elements on this face are inscribed with the name of each star sign and its pictogram.

At the heart of the design is a stylised motif representing the Sun, Moon and Stars.

On the Obverse of the $5 (Five Dollars) Silver Antiqued Coin is depicted an image of Queen Elizabeth II facing right designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials "IRB" appear below the Queen's neck.

The peripheral inscriptions read - "QUEEN ELIZABETH II. 5 OZ. 9999 SILVER. 2020. TUVALU . 5 DOLLARS."

The specifications of this Silver Coin are:

    1. Perth Mint, Australia and its franchise partners are retailing this coin. The unfortunate part is that Mumbai import customs is likely to give a lot of trouble, particularly on silver coins. A good way out is to wait & purchase from an Indian seller on eBay if it is available at a reasonable price, Abhishek.
