Guided by the Four Winds and a compass, this fourteen-piece puzzle Coin set takes one on course through Canada's adventure-filled past.

Each of the 13 puzzle-shaped coins highlights a famous pathfinder, cartographer and chronicler of Canadian history who has contributed to an understanding of the world and Canada's place in it. 

These pathfinders blazed trails in the uncharted territories and together account for nearly 1,000 years of history that is preserved in written accounts and illustrations, which connect with the past and acts as a guide to the future. It is a veritable photo album and story-telling that spans from the Viking Age and ends with a 20th Century trail-blazer.

Each puzzle coin set comes with a special booklet that explains each person's place on the coin and in Canadian history.

This puzzle coin revisits the "Age of Exploration" and the "excitement of sighting a new land in the distance.

Take for example, the ship that brought Cabot to Canadian shores  was the "Matthew" named after his wife "Mattea", while the disappearance of the 1845 Franklin Expedition, which sparked a series of search and rescue missions that continued for nearly 170 years and the wreck of the HMS Erebus was located only in 2014 and that of HMS Terror was found in 2016. What happened to the crew and pioneers of the Franklin's Expedition is still shrouded in the mists of time. 

The Puzzle Coin Set:

On the Reverse of the $50 Silver Central Coin is featured a selectively gold-plated compass rose  and its rim, and a personification of the Four Winds.

Each of the other $20 Silver Puzzle coins has a "gilded" frame.

The pathfinders, cartographers and chroniclers covered in the Coin Puzzle include - Cabot, Champlain, Erikson, Franklin, Hudson, La Verendrye, Rice, Shanawdilhit, Cartier, Vancouver, Frobisher, De LaSalle, Mackinzie.

The Central Coin at the heart of this puzzle celebrates Canadian history's mapmakers. 

The Obverses of all the Coins issued in this Puzzle Set depict Queen Elizabeth II facing right.

The peripheral inscriptions are -1 "ELIZABETH II. CANADA. D.G. REGINA. 50 DOLLARS (on the central piece) and 20 DOLLARS (on the 13 puzzle pieces).
